Author's Note: This was original written years ago when I wrote my other Dante and Envy shorts, "Favorite" and "Malice Aforethought". I always felt it needed something and only recently touched it up.

She was neither mother nor maker, and that was why he tolerated her. He was convenient to her and she to him.

And, if, one day, he would be the death of her or she him, that too was tolerable.

Because he would be the one standing. She couldn't lie to him. He knew she was as human as the rest.

In the meantime, it was fun to toy with the insects for her. For her and for himself. Stealing identities, spreading lies, watching humans destroy themselves.

She had her uses, and he had all the time in the world.
