Author’s Note:  This is going to be confusing. Please, bear with me. It all started when I was introduced to Spaceman's "Halloween World" fanfics, which are based loosely around an episode of "Buffy, the Vampire Slayer". The general premise is that a spell causes people to change into whatever they dressed as for Halloween. Expanding on the scope of the source material, Spaceman had the phenomenon end up affecting the entire world permanently. Some people manage to retain their original personalities along with the powers and/or features of their costumes. Others are completely consumed by the identity of their costume. Still others are a mix of their costumes and former selves.
It was a fascinating premise with endless crossover potential, so I proposed a variation on the idea to Sage as a personal RPG. Then, I started writing little fanfic snippets for some of the characters we were using. Here's the first.

-------------------------------------------

It started with the Halloween party.  He had been thiiiis close to bucking the “mandatory” costume rule his best friend had laid down when his wife overruled him.  She thought costumes would be fun.

So, they had gone in matching blue Air Force uniforms.  Crisp, classy and nothing that made him feel foolish.

It had just changed his life.

Two hours into the party, “it” happened.  Ten minutes later, he was forcing confused and conflicting memories aside to steal someone’s lighter, someone’s glove and a magic marker from somewhere.    Everything after that was a fiery blur of immolating zombie hordes while his wife expertly gunned down the faster ones.  She managed a frightening number of headshots.

It wasn’t until he had time to think that he realized the truth.  He had no idea who he was.

The scattered memories of two lives tumbled in this head.  Countless important details were lost while others were hopelessly muddled.

Mercifully, his most precious personal details were intact.  He knew his wife and she him.  And, more importantly, he knew her as his wife.  And, with her help, he even managed to find his house.

But, and as the world slowly returned to a semblance of normalcy this became important, who was he?  What was this place, this city?  What did he do for a living?

A quick check of the return address on his mail and some study of a tattered road atlas left him with more questions than answers.  But, at least he knew which set of fractured memories to attach to the location question.

As for himself….

The bedroom closet yielded several sets of uniforms, but they were clearly tailored for a woman.  His wife’s then.  And, not a mini-skirt in the lot.  Drat.

So, his wife was a police officer.

What about him then?

His wife finally solved the mystery when she discovered a briefcase filled with papers.  Papers that he found himself staring at in horror.

“I’m… a high school chemistry teacher?”

So, there you go - the introduction of Roy Martin, who is now, thanks to the Halloween phenomenon, also Colonel Roy Mustang from "Fullmetal Alchemist".
