            Chp1.

(Flying high above MegaKat City in the TurboKat, the Swat Kats were on patrol.  The TurboKat flew up and down side to side in the night’s sky.  T-bone was darting left and right, doing the thing he enjoyed most, pushing the TurboKat to her limits.  He leveled out as they started to fly over the residential part of MegaKat City.)

“It’s a pretty nice night tonight, aye Razor?” asked T-bone.

Razor looked up at the cloudless night sky and the full moon in the middle of it.  “Yeah, and with no sign of activity so far tonight, every Kat in MegaKat City must be enjoying it as…” The Enforcer radio channel going off cut him off.

“All units, we have a unknown electrical disturbance at the MegaKat Power Plant. Please be advised, over…”

Razor turned down the radio.

“We better check it out, buddy,” Razor said.

“Roger that,” T-bone answered and then pushed up to full throttle towards the MegaKat Power Plant.

When the TurboKat reached the scene of the report, both Swat Kats saw the workers running in a mass evacuation out of the plant.   T-bone put the TurboKat into hover mode as both Swat Kats saw the huge plant begin to glow.

“T-bone, what is going on down there?”  Razor said in fright and awe.

“IT’S GOING TO BLOW!!!  EVERYONE GET BACK!!!”  a worker yelled as he exited from the charged building.

“Razor, that energy core is going to blow!”  T-bone explained as he started to turn the TurboKat away.

“Hold on, buddy!”  Razor called, and T-bone stopped moving.  “Set me up for a shot at the roof.”

“The roof?  Razor, the whole building is going to blow!”

“Just keep the jet steady T-bone.”

T-bone pulled back and held the jet steady in hover mode.

“Alright. Two missiles…  Locked…  Away.”  The two missiles flew away from the TurboKat instantly and hit the roof, creating a huge hole that allowed Razor to see inside.  And, inside, Razor had a dead on view of the power core.  The huge silver ball was superconducting.  Electric waves shot out of its metal casing all the way to the ceiling.  The foundation shook after every gigantic bolt smashed against its walls.  “Alright, now locking Power Drain missile…”

“Power Drain?”  What the heck is that?” T-bone asked.

“Watch and see…,” Razor answered.  “Locked on, Power Drain Missile… Deployed!”  With that, the missile flew out of the belly of the TurboKat and flew toward the supercharged core.  Midway before impact, the missile’s front cap broke off and four long chains with circular pods at each end flew out and started to spin in the air.

T-bone looked on in curiosity and awe.  The missile hit dead center of the giant electrified ball.  The four pods were slapped against the shiny metal casing, and soon they grew bright white with the chains following.   Slowly, T-bone noticed a change; the giant electric bolts coming from out of the ball were getting smaller and smaller.  The building began to darken to its original color.  The workers stopped running and looked back to see a bright white light attached to the metal sphere.

“Wow, Razor, what have you come up with this time?” an astonished T-bone asked.

“It’s a prototype, a missile that absorbs energy rather than expelling it.  Think of it as like a reverse Scrambler missile,”  Razor explained.

“How much can that thing hold?”

“I don’t know, but it was the only option I had to save the plant…” Razor was cut off by a screeching coming from the white light.  And then, a sudden explosion as the white light turned red then disappeared in a bolt of lighting that went from the core to the ground.

T-bone and Razor had both dropped their Anti-Glare visors before the explosion.

“Looks like it couldn’t hold all of that juice,”  T-bone said.

“Yeah, and it looks like I I’ll be doing some adjustments on the next one,” Razor answered.

The building was dark and the workers now calmed.  The crisis was over, and even though the missile had overloaded, the danger had seemed to vanish.  With an overview that the situation was back under control, T-bone turned the TurboKat around, and the Swat Kats flew off, back home to salvage yard.

When they got back and out of their flight suits, Jake and Chance sat down on the couch.  Chance grabbed the remote and turned on the news.  Jake grabbed two cans of milk out of the fridge and handed one to Chance as he sat down next to him.

“This is Ann Gora of Kat’s Eye News, here at the MegaKat Power Plant where an extraordinary event has just taken place.  I’m here with the plant supervisor.  Tell us in your own words what happened here tonight?”

“Well, we were running some new experiments with a new type of ionized energy coil.  And, it ended up overloading the system.  We were on the verge of an electric blowout that would have cut off all of MegaKat City’s power.  But, right before the explosion, the Swat Kats somehow drained the energy from condensed core and sent it all to the ground.  Power was only cut off from a small part of the city, and only for a brief time.  It took us only five minutes to restore full power to the entire city.”

“There you have it, the city once again has been saved by the Swat Kats.  This is Ann Gora, Kat’s Eye News.”

Chance looked over at Jake.  “Another night for the Swat Kats,” he said, raising his can of milk up.

Jake looked at him and smiled.  “Yeah.”  And, with that, Jake lifted his can up and clinked it against Chance’s.  They both took big gulps after the toast.  “I think I know what to do with the modifications to the those Power Drain Missiles…”  He looked over at Chance, who was not paying attention and watching TV.   “Chance?” he asked.

Chance didn’t turn his head, but responded, “What Jake?  I’m kinda busy right now.  The MegaKat series is on and it’s game seven…”

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Hey, Guard, what’s taking so long?”  a grungy voice called from inside his cell.  “I want to see the game!”  he called out.

A squeaking of wheels could be heard from down the hall.  It came closer and closer until soon a TV placed on a cart came into sight.  Two guards were dragging it.

“Keep it quiet Shard!” one of the guards boomed back.  “You’ll get your precious game soon enough.”

The face in the cell stayed quiet.  As the cart reached his door, the guards instructed him to stay back.  He did, and they opened the cell door.  One guard rolled the TV in while the other kept his eyes on the inmate.  Once the TV was set up, the two guards walked out of the room and locked the cell door.

“Now, you’re allowed the TV for the remainder of the game for your service in the clean up effort around here a month ago.  You break it, you lose your outdoor activity time for six months.  Understand?”

“Get outta here!” yelled back the angry voice from inside the cell.  “Let me watch the game!”

The two guards gritted their teeth and walked away, infuriated at the disrespect.  The inmate flipped on the TV, turned it to the right channel,  and then sat down on his cot.

“Ha, I never thought I would see the MegaKat Tigers back in the series.”  He sat there, for the most part enjoying himself.  It wasn’t very often an inmate was allowed to watch TV.  But, he had worked and put in extra time to the clean up project on Alkatraz.  And, this was his reward.  He sat there watching TV when, all of a sudden, the TV shut off.  “What the?”  He got up and clicked the Power button, but nothing happened.  He banged on it with his paw in frustration, “C’mon, work, you stupid piece of junk.”  He looked behind the TV and traced the power cord to the outlet.  “Well it’s plugged in.”  He pushed the power button again; nothing happened. Then, he turned to the door.  “Hey, Guards, you gave me a busted TV!  I want another one!” he yelled.   But, the guards were long gone.  “Great, I finally get a TV to watch the game and what happens?  It breaks!  Ahh!” he yelled and picked up the TV in frustration and banged it against the cell wall.

*Crack*  The back end of the casing that held the TV came off and fell to the floor.

He looked at what he had done and placed the TV back down, but turned it around to see the damage.

“Stupid piece of junk.”

As he looked inside the shell of the casing, he saw two wires separated from each other as if they were blown apart.  “That’s the problem.”   As he reached his paw in to grab the wires, his finger got stuck in between the two wires.  Connecting the circuit, his finger was suddenly full of electricity and his entire body shook from it.  “Ahh!” he yelled in pain.

After a few seconds, he pulled his finger back with all his might.  When he pulled it out, his force knocked him back against the wall.   He laid there on the ground for a second before he got up.  Once he got up he looked at his finger.  It was a green crystal.

“NO way,” he said to himself.  “It’s happening again.”

He looked at the TV. It was smoking and the screen had exploded.   He looked back to his finger, and then he clenched his paw in a fist and concentrated.  With his eyes closed and squinted, he tried hard to concentrate.  Slowly, his entire left paw became green crystal.  He opened his eyes.

“Alright!  Rex Shard is back!”  He closed his eyes again and concentrated, but, this time, no matter how hard he tried he could not get the rest of his body to recrystalize.  He walked over to the TV and placed his left paw on it.  Expecting it to turn to crystal he was looked on to see the TV stay in its original form.  “What gives?  How come it doesn’t work?”  He looked at the TV again, thinking, and then said, “It must have happened when I got fried.  And now, I spent all my energy making my paw crystal…”  He looked up with an evil grin.  “Looks like I need to get me some more juice.”  He turned and walked over to the back wall of his cell.  Taking his crystal claw, he cut out the pattern of a giant circle in the wall.  Then, pulling his crystal fist back, he punched the middle with all his might.  With a giant boom the wall broke, and Shard leaped out onto the exterior of Alkatraz Island.

Chp2.

The next day, Chance and Jake were working on their morning project (Repairing the fuel injectors on a customer’s car.)  Chance was working under the hood while Jake had gone out for some breakfast and supplies they needed.  When he returned he had a newspaper in his hand.

“Hey, Chance, we made the front page,” he announced.

Chance lifted his head out from under the hood. “Really? let me see.”  Jake handed Chance the paper.  “Swat Kats save MegaKat power.”   He read out loud the title of the article.  He skimmed the text under the huge heading and suddenly stopped and blinked.  “They’re going to try it again?” he asked in disbelief.

Jake replied, “Yeah, tonight.”

“That’s ridiculous.  It was only last night when that building almost exploded, and they are planning to run another test the next night?” Chance protested.

“Well, the Doctor who invented that super coil seems to think he knows what went wrong.  And, if it works, MegaKat City will get safer and more power.  They think it’s worth the risk,” Jake replied.

“Well, alright, but I think the Swat Kats should be ready to go just in case we have an encore performance of last night,” Chance said.

“Yeah, you’re right,” Jake agreed.  “And, that also means I have to get my tail in gear to fix up the modification on my Power Drain missiles, just in case.”  He looked at the car and then at Chance.  “Buddy, could you finish the job while I get the missiles done?”

Chance looked at him; he knew what was more important but that meant more work for him.  With a sigh he agreed, “Alright Jake, but you get double shift tomorrow.”

Jake answered, “Alright, buddy.”   Then, Jake went down to the hanger to make the modifications as Chance went back to the fuel injector.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Down the street of MegaKat City walked a huge Kat in a long trenchcoat.  With his left paw in his pocket the Kat moved through the busy street.  Ahead, at the street corner there was a young Kat yelling.

“Extra!  Extra!  Read all about it!  Swat Kats save MegaKat Power!”  The young Kat was holding up a paper in his right paw and had a stack of them lodged under his left arm.

The Kat in the trenchcoat walked over to him.  “Hey, Kid, how much for a paper?” he asked.

The young Kat looked up at the mysterious figure and stepped back in fear.

“Whasamatter, kid?” the huge Kat asked in his deep voice.

The young Kat hesitated to answer then ran away.  As he turned around, he stumbled and dropped a paper.  Within a few seconds, the young Kat was out of the sight.

The huge Kat grinned and picked up the paper.  “I love kids.”  (reading the Headline story)  “The Swat Kats...”  His face turned bitter, but, as he continued to read, he came across something.  “Hello, what do we have here?  New power coil going to be tested tonight?  It’s supposed to increase power flow to MegaKat City?”  He looked up at the street light.  “Well, I think I might have to pay those nice people a visit, see if they can help me with my power problem.”  He looked around, then started to walk toward the MegaKat Power Plant.

            Chp3.

The day finished and the sun was on its way down from the sky when the huge Kat in the trenchcoat walked up to the entrance gate in front of MegaKat Power.

A guard holding a nightstick greeted him.  “Can I help you?” the guard asked.

And, without hesitation, the Kat in the trenchcoat pulled out his left paw and grabbed the guard’s throat.

“Pulling off his hood, Shard said, “No thanks, I think I can find my way from here.”  With that, he tossed the guard to the side, knocking him out.  Shard laughed, “You’re pretty lucky.  Had I had more energy you would have been broken glass.”  He turned back and walked into the plant.

Inside the plant was a crowd of workers all gathered around the Huge Giant Silver sphere (the main generator).  Hanging from the ceiling was a giant sign that read, “New Power Ceremony.” Standing next to the sphere, with a microphone in his paw, was a Kat in a white lab coat.

“My friends, tonight is the night when all your hard work and effort becomes a reality.  Unlike last night, tonight you will see your victory.  Tonight we ushurer in a new way of managing power.”

The crowd of Kats applauded and waited for him to throw the switch.  Shard walked through the thick crowd.  Not one Kat noticed him, they all were locked onto the Sphere and the doctor holding the switch.

“My friends give me a count,” the doctor called out to the crowd.

The crowd responded, “ONE!...  TWO!...  THREE!”

And, with that, the doctor threw the switch.   The power entered the sphere and flew to all its out-ports without problem.  Nothing was going wrong.

The doctor smiled and yelled out in satisfaction, “Success!!”

The crowd cheered as well.

But, slowly the enthusiasm turned to horror.  For, up on the platform, was a Kat ripping off his trenchcoat with a green crystal paw.  He placed his crystal hand against the sphere surging with energy.  He let out a loud yell as he felt the power moving into him.  Everyone in the room looked on in horror as the green crystal of Shard’s paw spread to his arm and then to the rest of his body.

Shard let out a huge cry of satisfaction, “YES!!  More Power!”

All the workers ran out of the building, fearing for their lives as Shard’s body began to glow a violent green.  As the last worker exited the building, Shard began to grow in size.  Just as he had before, he grew and grew until his crystal body broke through the roof.

He raised his arms, “REX SHARD IS BACK!”

While this was going on, one of the workers, who had gotten out of the building first, ran over to the pay phone and called the Enforcers.  “We’ve got trouble down here at MegaKat Power Plant.  Someone or something made of crystal has just drained the generator of all its power, and now he’s taller than the building,” he cried over the phone in panic.  “Help, he is….”  The phone went dead.

Soon, the enforcer band went off, “All units, we have an emergency at MegaKat Power Plant…  Please be advised, giant crystal being is on the rampage, over.”

-------------------------------------------------------------------

“Jake, are you done yet?” Chance asked as he climbed down the last of steps into the Hanger.

“Just about,” Jake answered.  He stood up from bending over the newly modified missile.  “This is number three.  Two is already loaded in the TurboKat.  I made two more just in case my modifications didn’t work and we needed to use two.  I don’t want another overload and nothing to back it up.”

“Alright, I can help you load this is in.  The ceremony they’re having at the plant starts in a minute.  Let’s get ready.  I have this feeling that everything is bound to go wrong again.”  Chance picked up the missile’s back while Jake got its front.  “Whoa, this are pretty heavy,”  Chance stated.

“Yeah, it’s all the wiring and generator that stores all the energy.  These things are pretty heavy,” Jake replied.

They slowly moved toward the TurboKat with the heavy missile in their paws.  When they reached its open cargo bay, Jake showed where to place the missile, and Chance and himself placed it in its position.

Shutting the cargo bay doors, Jake said, “I hope everything goes well tonight - I am still kind of iffy on these modifications.”

Chance replied, “Well, with the luck they have…”

The Enforcer Emergency Radio Band calling interrupted him.

“All units, we have an emergency at MegaKat Power Plant…”

“Yep, what did I tell you, Buddy?  Let’s hit it,” Chance said.  He began to sprint to his locker when Jake stopped him.

“Hold on, Chance,” Jake said, “There’s more.”

“Please be advised, giant crystal being is on the rampage, over,” the Enforcer band finished then cut out.

“Giant crystal being?” Chance repeated in surprise.  “What in Kats could that be…”  Remembering, He looked over at Jake.  “No way.”

Jake looked back at him with the same realization on his face.  “I think so - Rex Shard might be back.”

“I thought we took care of that guy?” Chance said in protest.

“Well, we can’t argue about that now - we have to save MegaKat City,” Jake replied.

“Let’s hit it,” Chance said as Jake and himself sprinted to their lockers.  Once changed, the Swat Kats leaped into the TurboKat and took off full throttle toward MegaKat City.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Rex Shard was trampling the MegaKat Power Plant.  He placed his paws on the power poles, sucking up more energy and turning them to crystal.  Then, looking down at the fleeing workers, he placed his huge green paw to the ground.

“Let’s see if you can outrun this.”

As his paw hit the ground, the crystals shot out of the ground and spread like wildfire toward the fleeing mass of Kats.  Traveling faster than the Kats, the crystal ran over the whole group of them and instantly turned them all the statues of crystal.   Frozen, unable to feel, move, or live.

“HaHaHa,” Shard laughed at his work.  He picked one of the small Kat statues up and held it in his paw.  “Hey, not bad.  I should go into art.”  He laughed again.

Just then, he heard a roar approaching.   He looked up to see the TurboKat closing fast.  “The Swat Kats.  I have a score to settle with you two.”  He dropped the statue to the ground far below and used his other paw to launch a group of razor sharp crystals at the TurboKat.

T-bone banked left to avoid being hit, and Razor fired a compliment of cement slugs onto Shard’s face to blind him and block his vision.

T-bone zoomed past Shard’s side to get behind him.  “Yep that’s him - looks like round two for Shard vs. the Swat Kats,” T-bone said to Razor.  “Only how do we beat him?”

“Well, I don’t have any Banshee missiles on me, so how about another sonic boom? Mach 5?” Razor asked.

“Mach 6!” T-bone replied and smiled, then turned the jet around towards Shard.

Shard removed the now crystal cement slugs from his face.  He turned around to face the TurboKat, which was closing at sonic speeds.  Using both paws, he launched six jagged crystals at the TurboKat.

“Holy Kats!” T-bone exclaimed.  He pulled up just in the nick of time and avoided being hit, but, at the speed they were going, T-bone lost control in the maneuver, and the TurboKat went right into a jetwash (It began to spin out of control).

“T-bone, get control!” Razor called.

“I’m trying…,” he answered.  “C’mon baby, hold together.”  The TurboKat started to plummet to the ground below.   T-bone gripped the controls using both paws, and, with all his might, he finally regained control.  “Yes!” he said with relief.  Turning left, he brought the jet around and faced Shard once again.

“Nice try, Swat Kats, but I won’t let you pull another sonic boom on me,” Shard called out.  “Now, how are you to stop me?”

“Crud.  He knew it was coming,” T-bone said.  “What are we going to do, Razor?”

“I don’t know… That device Dr. Greenbox gave us to defeat him the first time…   It must not have worked all the way.  He still returned to a crystal from, but how?” Razor said in thought.

T-bone kept his concentration forward as he dodged more of Shard’s attacks while Razor was thinking.  He called back, “Razor, I can’t keep this up for much longer.  What do we have to fight that guy?”

Razor didn’t answer.

“Razor?!?” T-bone called again.

“Power,”  Razor answered.

“Power?  We have power?” T-bone asked.

“No, think about it, T-bone. Where could Shard get all this power from?  He must have taken it all from the plant.   So, the reason he’s crystal again is ‘cause he is running on all that electric power,” Razor explained.

Raising his eyebrow, T-bone asked, “Razor, didn’t you just create a new form of missile that drains electric energy from things?”   He knew the answer already.

Razor smiled and immediately turned to his targeting scope.  “Power Drain missile Number 2 locked on target…  Away!”

The missile shot out form the TurboKat and bolted toward Shard.  As the end cap popped off and the chains spun, it hit Shard dead center.

He let out a huge yell of pain.  “AHHHHHHHH!”

The missile stuck to his crystal body, and the pods drained the energy from him.  Slowly, he began to shrink.

“Yes!” Razor said in triumph.

“Razor, will that missile hold all that energy?” T-bone asked.

“I don’t know…,” Razor stopped answering at the sight of Shard jabbing himself in the chest to break the missile.

With the hit, the missile crumbled and Shard stopped shrinking.  He walked over the nearest power line, grabbing hold.  Within seconds, he was back to his giant size.

“Ahh, you’re going to pay for that, Swat Kats!” he yelled in anger.

“Crud!  Razor, your missiles aren’t any good if he can just smash them.  And, he just regained all his power from those power lines.

“Not a problem, Buddy - I have a plan, and he’s in a remote enough area of the city where I won’t cause that much damage,” Razor answered.

“What are you going to do?” T-bone asked.

“I’m gonna turn out the lights,” Razor answered, and, with that, Razor fired a pack of TurboBlades at the power lines connecting the energy output from the Plant to the power lines running up and down the area.  The blades cut the lines, and all the power in the area, and all the lights, went out.  Moonlight and the TurboKat were the only sources of light.   “Okay, now I have to modify my last Power Drain missile.  I’m turning up the input capacity level.  So it can drain more and faster.”

“Razor, will that hold?” T-bone asked.

“Well, it does make the risk of overload go from about 10% to 80%.  But, there is a small chance it will hold.  All we can do is hope Shard is down before the missile overloads,” Razor answered, then targeted the ground where Shard stood.

The ground was lit by the moonlight.  The crystal acted like a mirror and reflected the light to everywhere.

“Now, let’s see if we can’t bring him down a bit…  Tarpedo missiles locked… Deployed!”  The three Tarpedo missiles flew out of the TurboKat and to the ground beneath Shard’s feet.  The ground that was now smooth crystal.  When the Tarpedos fired their tar on the smooth surface of the ground, Shard’s feet slipped from under him, knocking him down on his back.   As soon as his body hit the ground, Razor fired the last Power Drain missile.   “1, 2… 3 combination,” Razor said.

As the missile hit Shard’s body, it glowed bright, draining Shard’s energy even faster than before.  The power flew into the missile at incredible speeds.

Razor thought to himself, ‘Please hold together, Please hold together.’

Shard’s body shrunk quickly, and his glow faded into the missile along with his energy.  He had tried to smash it again, but the pain was too much.  Soon, he was back to normal size and unconscious on the ground.  As he laid on the ground, all the crystal that had formed from his touch vanished.  Everything was back to normal, which meant everything was now much darker.

T-bone landed the TurboKat right beside where Shard now lay.  He and Razor jumped out and quickly tied up Shard.  As T-bone finished making sure Shard could not escape, he looked at Razor standing over the last Power Drain missile.  T-bone walked over.

“It worked,” Razor said.  “It held together.”

“Yeah. You wanna keep it?” T–bone asked.

Razor gave T-bone a curious look, then answered, “Yeah, I can take this back as a blueprint to make more.  Help me load it in the TurboKat.”

T-bone did, and, with the missile in the cargo bay, the Swat Kats flew off back to the Hanger in the salvage yard, with the city saved once again.

----------------------------------------------------------------

The Enforcers had picked up Shard and taken him back to Alkatraz.  He was now placed in a cell with no access to electric charges.

----------------------------------------------------------------

“Hey, Guard,” Shard called from his cell.

The guard got up and walked over, “What you want, Shard?”

“I need a TV to see the highlights of the MegaKat Series. I want to know who won…”

“I’m sorry, Shard - no TV for you for a long time,” the guard answered sarcastically.  He turned back to his chair but then stopped.  He turned back to Shard’s cell.  “And, you don’t need a TV to find out who won…  The Tigers lost…  5 to 0.”  The Guard smiled.  “Aren’t they your favorite team?”

Shard gave the guard a dirty look and walked away from the cell door.  He slowly laid down on his cot and looked out the window of his cell.  He laid his head back against his pillow and looked up at the ceiling.

“Damn.”

The End…

(of the episode)
