Teaser: Well with the city in danger the Swat Kats are there, but this time Dark Kat's got something new... As does Razor... And when they clash, personalities fly... Literally. Story is in response to a challenge issued by Cherry Koivula. Authors comments: It can get kinda of confusing, it was a challenge to write so that the reader would fully understand what was going on. (Good idea for a story by the way) After the Change, both kats are referred to according to who they look like, not by their personalities/real selves. Just reread if you get stuck. Or, if push comes to shove, email me, and I'll explain whatever you want. Hope you like, let me know what you think. Chp1. (Setting: Swat Kats hanger, underneath the salvage yard.) Jake was crouched down working in the cockpit of the TurboKat while Chance was breaking a sweat on the punching bag. Both Swat Kats were dressed in their flight jump suits, but were not wearing their masks or helmets. Jake lifted his head, picked himself up, and jumped down from the jet. In his hand was a small device with a large red button on it. He pointed the remote at the TurboKat and pushed the button. Chance didn't notice him. Jake then turned and walked over to Chance. "Hey Jake, I am really glad we bought this bag," Chance said, noticing Jake walking over to him. "Gives me a great way to work out these guns of mine." Jake rolled his eyes at Chance's "modesty". "Yeah, it was lucky we found it on sale over at ChampKats," he said. Chance suddenly turned his attention to Jake and began to spar his partner. "Lucky for you, now I can beat up on something else besides you," Chance said jokingly. He moved in and out, punching Jake, but not hurting him. Trying to dodge his partner's attacks, Jake moved back, and tripped over an extension cord he had not noticed behind him. "Ha ha, way to cover up there, Swat Kat," Chance joked. Jake got up and smiled at Chance. "Any day of the week you bring yourself, and those "guns" of yours and I'll kick your butt," Jake said. "You're on!" exclaimed Chance. "I'll take you down before you know it. I am a machine, built for battle with the evil of the MegaKat City and every now and then kicking the tail of my little partner." "Little?!?" Jake said, challenging Chance. "That's right! And, not afraid of anything!" replied Chance. His facial expression suddenly changing, Jake exclaimed, "Chance there's a bug your shoulder!" Chance eyes grew huge, and he quickly jumped up and hit his shoulder with his paw. "Ahhh! Get it off!" he yelled to Jake. Chance jumped up and down for about five seconds, frantically trying to get the bug off. He finally stopped to see Jake laughing at him. "Not afraid of anything? Maybe we should give that Ci-Kat- a a call." Jake still laughing, "I'll be sure to remember that nothing scares you." Chance just looked at Jake with a cold stare. 'Very funny,' he thought to himself. "You wanna go right now?" he said to Jake to stop him from laughing. "I make you a deal - if you can hit right fin of the TurboKat with the laser from your glovatrix, I let you have the first shot," said Jake. "You're on!" answered Chance. He went over to the table and picked up his glovatrix. He put it on and set the laser to low power (to not hurt the TurboKat). He aimed, then turned to Jake, "You're going down." Jake just looked at Chance in a relaxed mood. Chance turned his eyes back to the target and fired. He was right on target, but right before the beam got past the wing, it bounced off an energy shield protecting the TurboKat and headed back towards the Swat Kats. "Holy Kats!" yelled Chance as he and Jake jumped out of the way. The beam flew past and landed against the back wall. It formed a black burnt spot on the wall, nothing serious. "Jake, are you alright?" asked Chance. He looked and saw Jake on the ground laughing... "You knew that was going to happen... Wow! How did you come up with an energy shield?" asked Chance. Jake was still chuckling when he got back up. "Remember Dark Kat? Remember when his jet had an energy shield? And the only way to take them out was with the Scrambler missile? Well, I had been theorizing an energy shield for a long time. And, when I saw Dark Crud's, I got an idea... And, to build a shield that would be strong enough I reinforced the emitters on the TurboKat with insolated circuit breakers, and I also polarized the shield itself to reflect any attack, and even withstand a Scrambler missile... Or any huge electric charge for that matter." "Wow, Jake... That's amazing. I guess I don't have to worry about flying any more. I can just coast through the worst fire fight on cruise control," Chance said. "Well, it hasn't been tested yet...." answered Jake, but he was suddenly cut off by the sound of the alarm going off. Chance was nearest and picked up the phone. "Yes Ms. Briggs?" he asked. "Swat Kats, we've got trouble. DarkKat is attacking Enforcer headquarters, and he is moving toward City Hall." "Speak of the Devil," Chance said. "What?" asked both Ms. Briggs and Jake. "DarkKat," Chance explained to Jake. And then to Ms. Briggs, "Nothing Ms. Briggs. We're on our way." He hung up the phone and called out to Jake, "Let's go, Razor!" Both Swat Kats put on their masks and helmets, jumped in the jet, and took off full throttle out of the hanger toward MegaKat City Hall. Chp2. "You got him yet, Razor?" asked T-bone as the TurboKat approached Enforcer headquarters. "No, not yet... Wait a sec, there he is, about two miles ahead of us, closing fast on City Hall," answered Razor looking down at the radar. "Engage Jet boosters." T-bone reached down and hit the button on his console. Two pairs of twin jet boosters came out from the hull of the TurboKat and rocketed the jet forward toward DarkKat. When they caught up with him, T-bone disengaged the boosters and looked on in horror. DarkKat was attacking Enforcer choppers with missiles that when launched would vanish and then hit their targets without warning. It was as if the missiles turned invisible after launch. "Razor, you see that?" asked T-bone in shock. "Yeah... engaging energy shield." "I got to tell you, buddy, you picked a great time to install that thing. I don't know what our chances could have been otherwise, I have no idea how to out fly those invisible seekers," T-bone said. "Let's hope it works," replied Razor. "I'm going to try to get behind him," announced T-bone. "Put your mask on..." Razor did, and T-bone flew downward. He flew straight down to the ground to stay undetected from DarkKat. He pulled up just in time and skimmed across the streets of MegaKat City to keep under DarkKat's radar. Through the buildings he flew. And then, after he slipped under DarkKat's jet, he pulled up and flipped the TurboKat around and onto Dark Kat's tail. "Great flying, T-bone," Razor congratulated. "Now... Buzzsaw missiles locked... Deployed!" The missiles flew out of the belly of the TurboKat and headed straight for DarkKat. DarkKat noticed the TurboKat, but it was too late. He moved out of the way of two, but the third missile hit his wing and cut its length in half. "Aw, you only got one to hit, Sureshot," announced T-bone. "Second wave of missiles locked..." answered Razor, but T-bone cut him off. "Razor, he fired a missile!" "Deployed!" finished Razor. The missiles left the TurboKat, and the missile from DarkKat's jet disappeared. "Hold on, Razor, no offense to your shield, but I'm gonna try to out run it." T-Bone banked left, and accelerated upward to out climb the missile. As he climbed, the missiles that were launched at DarkKat hit, but right before his jet exploded, an escape pod flew away and out of MegaKat City. The Swat Kats, distracted by the 'ghost' missile, didn't notice DarkKat's escape. T-bone climbed and climbed for what seemed forever, until he suddenly inverted backward and headed downward left. He flew down and fast, and, after a while, he leveled out and reduced speed. "I think we out ran it." But, as soon as he looked around, he saw a huge flash of energy around him. The shock knocked T-bone forward and his paw hit the button to put the TurboKat into hovermode. "The missile!" yelled Razor as the jet shook. "What's wrong with the shield...." asked T-bone, but was then silenced by the violent shock the TurboKat was taking. The energy shield around them phased in and out, and the missile that had struck them now was visible, but seemed stuck in the shield. Inside the cockpit, sparks flew. Razor and T-bone tried to avoid being electrocuted, and they both ducked their heads. Outside, the missile sent a last, giant electric wave into the TurboKat before gravity took control of it. The shock went right through the TurboKat and shot out of the consoles of both Swat Kats. Razor and T-bone we pushed back by the shock and shook as the electricity ran through their bodies. Then, a giant electric bolt formed between Razor's and T-bone's head. It stayed connected for a while, then suddenly vanished with the rest of the electricity. The TurboKat was still airborne, hovering silently as Razor and T-bone lay motionless inside. Razor was the first to wake. He picked up his head with his paw pressed on the top. "Aw, my head," he said softly. He fully opened his eyes to see a radar and weapons panel in front of him. He looked confusedly at it, and then, when he reached for the throttle, he couldn't find it. He soon realized that he as in the wrong seat. "Hey, Razor, I'm in your seat", he called out to the front. When he got no answer, he banged on the seat in front of him. "Hey, Razor, you awake?" ...he stopped. He looked at his paw, the fur was dark brown... 'What the?' he thought to himself. 'What happened to me?' He looked up and tired to find a mirror where he could see what he looked like. He couldn't find one. "Hey, Razor, are you okay?" he called out louder. This time T-bone did wake up. He pulled his head back and opened his eyes to see the midday MegaKat City skyline in front of him. "Whoa," he said out loud. 'What am I doing in the in the pilot's seat?' he thought to himself. Then, he heard Razor call to him. 'What's wrong with my voice? I sound like...' Razor thought to himself... But, as he looked up to see T-bone looking back at him... "Razor?..." T-bone face was frozen in shock, but he managed to get out, "T-bone?..." "Razor, you're in the pilot's seat, and you look like me," Razor said slowly. "What's going on?" "T-bone you're in my seat and you look like me," T-bone replied. They both kept staring in shock... "Wait a minute... T-bone, you are me... Razor... Your personality is in my or Razor's body." T-bone said slowly to understand even himself. "I think we have somehow switched bodies..." "Switched bodies?" repeated Razor. "That's impossible." "You got a better explanation?" asked T-bone. "...It happened after we got hit by DarkCrud's ghost missile... That ghost technology mixed with my shield matrix must have cause some radical depolarization... When we got hit by the electric shock, that's when it happened..." T-bone explained, then he got lost in thought. "Razor, I mean T-bone, I mean Razor..." "It's probably best to just call me what I look like for right now," T-bone interrupted. "But, you're me! I'm never gonna get used to it," answered Razor. "Try..." "Alright... T-bone, what are we going to do? How can we get back into our original bodies?" Razor asked. "I don't know, I would need to examine what kind of technology DarkKat used. But, I have no idea where... to..." He looked down at the street far below. " Is that missile still down there?" he asked. "I don't know, maybe... It would have taken a pretty bad fall," answered Razor. "We need to get down there and get it." T-bone turned and faced forward only to turn around again back to Razor. "I don't know how to fly..." "I know, so get out of my seat," replied Razor. T-bone turned and pushed the canopy button. It opened and the two switched places carefully. After they were back in their seats, Razor closed the canopy and descended down toward the missile on the street. When they were in range, T-bone opened the bomb bay doors. The missile wasn't in that bad a shape; it was cracked into two big pieces with other small fragments scattered around. T-bone leaped down, tied up the two large pieces, then picked up some of the smaller fragments and placed them in a bag. Then, grabbing on of the ropes, he rode up with the cargo. After he was inside, he placed the missile pieces in the cargo bay and got back into his seat. Razor flew off full throttle back toward the garage. Both Swat Kats were pretty quiet during the ride home, each still feeling very awkward in his partner's body... Chp3. The TurboKat landed on the runway and was lifted up into the hanger. Razor and T-bone jumped down from the TurboKat and walked over to their lockers. Razor walked to the locker with the big black 'T.B' on it, and T-bone walked to the locker with the big 'R' on it. They both stopped. Razor turned to T-bone; "This is too weird..." "Yeah, you're right, buddy..." replied T-bone. T-bone and Razor switched places and opened their lockers. Again, they looked at each other... Slowly, T-bone reached for his clothes and began to change out of his flight suit. Razor soon followed and they both changed in silence. When they finished, Razor looked at T-bone again and said, "I think that was the weirdest thing I have ever done... Never would I think I would change clothes in my best friend's body."... Just as he finished a bell rang from up top. T-bone and Razor looked up in panic. "Oh great, just what we need, a customer." "Alright, we can handle this. We'll go up together and talk to whoever is up there. All you need to remember is that your name is Jake Clawson... And, my name is Chance Furlong." replied Chance. "Okay," Jake said and, as they both climbed the ladder up to the garage Jake said out loud, "Things are just getting better and better." When Chance and Jake got out of the hanger, they walked over to the sound of the bell being rung. When they reached the garage office, their heartbeats quickened and their feet stopped. It was Callie. Chance and Jake both thought at the same thing when they realized it was Ms. Briggs, 'Oh no!' "Hey, you guys, where have you been?" she asked. Chance clammed up at the question, but luckily Jake came into say, "Oh, we were just in the back examining some new parts we got in. You're welcome to come in if you want, can I get you a glass of milk?" asked Jake smoothly. "Sure Jake, but I'm here cause I need you guys to work out some problems with my car. It is sucking up way too much gas than it should be. My gas bills have just been getting bigger and bigger, and I don't know why," replied Callie. "No problem, Jake will start on it right away..." answered Jake, but then he realized his mistake and quickly restated his last sentence, "I mean Chance... Chance will start on it... He has more knowledge about things like this than I do." He smiled at her, hoping she would forget his mistake. "Umm, alright..." answered Callie in a confused voice. "How about that milk?" Jake said quickly changing the subject. "Okay, here you go, Chance," Callie said as she handed the keys of her car to Chance. Then, she walked past toward the kitchen and Jake followed. As Jake walked past Chance, he saw Chance's face looking stern and scared at him. Chance mouthed a few words to him, "You got lucky!" Jake replied by mouthing, "I know, I'm sorry." Then, holding his paws up, he mouthed, "No more messing up..." Chance walked out toward Callie's car as Jake and Callie walked to the kitchen. Things seemed to calm down for the next hour. Chance worked on the car. Jake talked to Callie for a while, and she drank her milk. After Callie was done, Jake went to help Chance as Callie decided to watch some TV. Jake hadn't slipped up since the first encounter, so things were looking pretty good. After the first hour was over, Callie got up from the couch and came out the garage. She saw Chance under the hood with Jake leaning against the wall beside him. She came in on their conversation... "How long is this going to last? I mean, what if we can't find a way to reverse it?" asked Jake to Chance. "Is it that bad?" Callie interrupted. Jake looked up to see her standing there, and he quickly picked himself up. "Um, no Callie, your car will be fine and so will your gas bill." "Then, what were you talking about?" she asked. "Umm, I was... Talking about..." sweat was forming on his paws. He rubbed them and tried to think up a good excuse, "It was about..." Chance suddenly picked his head up from under the hood, and turned to Callie. "It was about the problem with our VCR. Lately, it has been eating up all our tapes, and we haven't found a reason why yet." Callie looked at Chance, then at Jake (who was nodding in agreement), then again back to Chance. Changing the subject she asked, "Not that I don't have the time, but how long do you think this is going to take?" "I should be done after another hour and a half, Callie," answered Chance. "Do you have the rest of the day off, Callie?" asked Jake. "Actually, I took all of today off so I could come down here and fix up my little problem," answered Callie. "Good plan," replied Jake. He paused for a sec, then turned to Callie, "I wish I could make your stay more pleasant, but I can only think of the TV to help pass the time." "Oh, that's alright, Jake, I brought my favorite book to read. I came prepared for a long stay," answered Callie. "Oh, well feel free to read wherever you want to. I am going to go to take a little Katnap upstairs for a while," Jake said. "If you need anything, Ja...Chance can help you out. See you later, Callie." "Enjoy your nap," replied Callie. Jake nodded and headed upstairs. While he walked away, he put his paw on his head in shame for all the mistakes that he had made in front of Callie. As he climbed the stairs, he quietly said to himself, "Way to go Chance, real smooth..." When he got to his room, he dropped right into bed and fell asleep. Callie went and sat down on the couch in the living room to read. Chance went back to work, slowly fixing the fuel injector on her car. After a while, Callie got up from her book and walked back over to the garage. She walked in when Chance was sitting down taking a break. She caught his attention. He was quiet at first, but when she got closer and closer, he stood up and asked, "Is there something I can help you with Callie?" She looked at him puzzled. "Chance, are you feeling alright?" Stunned a little by the question, Chance hesitated, then said, "I'm fine, Callie. Why do you ask?" "Well, you and Jake have seemed a little different today. I don't know what it is, but you have been very quiet, and Jake has been very open. That's not like him or you. You sure there is nothing going on?" she asked again. "No Callie, but thanks for asking," answered Chance. "She moved closer to him and placed her paw on his," You sure?" she asked again. "Chance looked down at the paw and then up at Callie, "Yeah, I'm sure." He smiled at her. "Okay." She smiled back. The day went on and so did the repairs. Callie didn't go back to her book, but stayed by Chance as they talked and joked. When Chance was finished, Callie thanked and paid him. He took the money and thanked her for the conversation. She smiled at him again and then drove off around 4 o'clock in the afternoon. After she was gone, Chance went back inside and sat down on the couch to relax. He just sat there, lost in thoughts. Thoughts of the Swat Kats, losing his body, and thoughts of Callie. Soon, Jake came down and looked at Chance. "Is she gone?" he asked. "Yeah, she's gone." "Oh Kats, was I messing up. I am really sorry for my slip-ups. And, thank you very much for covering for me when I got stuck... In fact, the reason I went to take a nap was cause I was afraid I was going to mess up again... So, did she say anything when I left?" "Yeah, she was suspicious of something, but I think she forgot about it by the time she left." "How?" "I talked to her for a while, kinda got her mind off the whole subject." "What did you two talk about?" "She told me about how her life was going. Financial, social, personal..." "Whoa, wait a minute... personal?" "Yeah, and I told her about how life was working in the garage." "Wait, Jake, ah crud, I mean Chance, what did she say about her personal life?" "Well, she just told me that life as Deputy Mayor was hard on the personal life. That she doesn't think any guy could fit in her schedule, but the thought of falling in love excites her. She doesn't know what to do. For her, it's career that comes first..." "Ah man, I wish I could've been there." "Hey, Jake, I am going to go down and try to figure out that missile, watch over the garage alright?" "Sure thing." Jake dropped down onto the couch as Chance got up. Jake grabbed the remote and turned on the TV to an episode of ScardyKat. Almost immediately after he pushed the 'on' button, he was laughing at the cartoon. Chance looked at Jake laughing for a sec, then walked back down to the hanger. He chuckled to himself, 'I never ever thought I'd see myself laughing at a ScardyKat cartoon,' he thought. Chance spent the rest of the night in the Hanger. Jake came down around seven and asked Chance what he wanted on his pizza. Then, about thirty minutes later, Jake came down with dinner, a tuna deluxe special. They both ate, and Jake went back up to close up shop and watch more ScardyKat and the news. Chance rebuilt most of missile, then extracted the working components of DarkKat's ghost technology. He did test after test, but he didn't have the proper tools or equipment to duplicate DarkKat's technology. He did, however, find out what had caused the accident though. When the missile had hit his polarized energy shield, it had caused the shield to reverse repel. So, then, energy was sucked in rather than bounced back. As for why he had switched bodies with his partner, he didn't know. All he knew was that the only way to get back to normal was to capture a ghost missile intact. It was the key to recreating the scenario that had put them there in the first place. Chp4. (The next morning) "Wait a minute, you want to go into DarkKat's secret lair and steal one of those missiles?" asked Jake. "That's kinda crazy..." "Yeah, but it's the only way to find out how to reverse our condition," replied Chance. "Alright, I agree... But, there is one problem... Where is DarkKat's 'secret lair'? ..." asked Jake. "Well, when examining this missile, I found a very rare metal alloy used in the casing. The metal is called Protinium, and it is known for being the best conducting metal in the world. Now, this metal doesn't appear often cause it is so rare. And, the only deposit of Protinium on this continent is located in the mountains north of MegaKat City. MegaKat Metallurgical had a mine up there, but it was abandoned due to an excessive amount of electrical hazards... I bet DarkKat is hiding in the mine," answered Chance. "Well, I already closed up the garage for today, so let's go," Jake said. They both turned and headed down to the hanger. They walked up to their lockers, and, once again, they had walked to each other's without thought. This time, they briefly looked at each other then switched positions and changed quickly into their flight gear. Razor and T-bone then jumped in the TurboKat, but in opposite positions. Razor was the pilot and T-bone the gunner. After they were buckled in, Razor pushed full throttle, and the TurboKat flew out and off to the mountain range. As they were flying T-bone asked Razor, "Hey, Razor, what happened to DarkKat?" "Don't know, on the news he was presumed dead. The enforcers found the remains of his jet, but no body. They think he died in the explosion from your missiles," answered Razor. "Well, I guess we'll see in a few minutes," replied T-bone. "Yeah," Razor said. When they reached the mountains T-bone scanned around for any signs of a secret base. He soon found a mountain with a hollowed out base and a hidden tunnel leading in from behind the rocks. "The tunnel must need some sort of key to open up," stated Chance. "Can we blast through?" asked Razor. "That's a negative, Buddy, x-ray shows that door could withstand any kind of assault. I suggest we go from underneath in the newly rebuilt TurboMole," suggested T-bone. "Affirmative, settin her down," replied Razor. He set the TurboKat down, and the Swat Kats climbed down into the TurboMole. They engaged the engines and dug down underneath DarkKat's lair. When they seemed to reach the middle of the lair, Razor engaged the drill to dig upward. The broke through the soil and landed in the middle of DarkKat's runway. Razor and T-bone looked quickly around them for any sign of DarkKat, but the lair was empty. Not even a creepling was to be seen. The Swat Kats got out of the TurboMole and took a look around. Razor walked all over to see what new things DarkKat was coming up with. T-bone immediately searched for and then found some Ghost missiles piled up. "Hey, buddy, I found them, give me a hand loading one up," asked T-bone. Razor walked over and helped T-bone, "You know, with my body, you could carry this by yourself," he said. T-bone looked up at him with a funny look. "Well, looks like I'll be getting it back pretty soon, so you don't have to worry about holding on to it for much longer," added Razor. They set the missile down in the cargo bay of the TurboMole. While T-bone was securing the missile, Razor got up and looked around again. "I guess this means that there is no more DarkKat. If he isn't here, then he must have died in that explosion." "I guess you're right..." T-bone said. "No more DarkKat..." Just then, Razor's communicator in the TurboMole started to go off. "Callie's calling." Razor said as he ran over to answer Ms. Briggs. He flicked on the switch. "Yes, Ms Briggs?" "Swat Kats, we've got trouble, DarkKat is back and he's right outside City Hall completely annihilating the enforcers who are trying to stop him." "DarkKat? I thought we took care of that guy. Don't worry, Ms. Briggs, we are on our way." Razor hung up the phone and called over to T-bone, "Get in. We've got trouble over at City Hall." T-bone jumped in, and the Swat Kats headed back out to the TurboKat in the TurboMole. "What's the problem?" asked T-bone. "DarkCrud is back, and he's right on top of Manx and Callie," answered Razor. "Oh Crud, I haven't had time to repair and modify the energy shield," T-bone said. "Well, we got to go. You got any ideas how to beat him?" asked Razor. "Yeah, but I don't know how long it will take..." answered T-bone. When they reached the surface, Razor docked up with the TurboMole and hurried up to take off. He took off and headed full throttle back to MegaKat City. T-bone stayed down in the cargo bay examining the missile. "What do you have in mind?" asked Razor. "Well, I am looking for the pulse frequency of DarkKat's missiles. If I can find it, I can use my Dimensional Radar to see the missiles after they are fired. If we can see them, then we can dodge them. It's the best thing I could come up with," answered T-bone. "That's great, how long?" asked Razor. "Don't know... It could take a long time," answered T-bone. "Well you have five minutes before we get there," replied Razor. "Alright," answered T-bone. The next minutes went by as the TurboKat got closer and closer to DarkKat. For Razor, the minutes seemed to take forever as he kept waiting for T-bone to say, "I got it." And, for T-bone the minutes went by with a breath. He worked as quick as he could, but the time was racing past him. With one minute left T-bone suddenly shouted out, "I got it!" "Great, get up here!" called Razor. T-bone rushed up to his seat and began to reprogram the Dimensional Radar. The TurboKat arrived at City Hall to see DarkKat in his new jet destroying the last of the Enforcer choppers. It was the same as before; the missiles launched, then they disappeared. "Hey, Buddy, you got it yet?" Razor asked in panic. "There! Switching to Dimensional Radar now," answered T-bone. And, with a flick of a switch, Razor and T-bone could now see DarkKat and the missiles he was firing. "Yes!" T-bone exclaimed as his plan worked. DarkKat's jet came about and faced the TurboKat, "He's gonna fire," warned T-bone. "I got him," answered Razor. DarkKat launched a missile at the TurboKat. As it closed in, T-bone announced, "Missiles locked on the target... Away." He launched two missiles at the Ghost missile. The missiles hit dead on, and a giant explosion appeared out of thin air. From the Mayor's Office, Ms. Briggs had seen DarkKat launch a missile and then have it disappear. Then, the Swat Kats launched two and in the center an explosion she saw the two missiles hit. "They figured out how to detect DarkKat's weapons," she said to herself. She smiled, feeling better about her situation, knowing that the Swat Kats were there. "Bingo!" yelled T-bone as the missiles hit. "Awright, DarkKat, now you're going down... Missiles... Locked, loaded, and..." "Razor! He is firing at City Hall!" Razor yelled all of a sudden. "He knows he can't win, so he's gonna destroy City Hall as cover to make his escape. Well, not today..." T-bone said. "Alright, Multi-Target acquisition ready ..Missiles locked... Loaded... Away!" announced T-bone. As soon as he finished his last word, four missiles flew away from the TurboKat. Two headed after DarkKat and two after the Ghost missile. "Razor, are those going to get there in time?" asked Razor. "5... 4... 3... 2...1..." answered T-bone. Then, almost immediately, both the ghost missile and DarkKat's jet exploded. The explosion from the missile flew toward the City Hall and brushed against it before it faded out. Razor flew over to the window to see Callie standing there looking back at them. He called over the communicator, "Ms. Briggs, are you okay?" "Yeah, Razor, I'm fine. Thank you for saving my life, and the City," answered Ms. Briggs. "No problem," replied Razor. Suddenly, realizing a huge difference, Ms. Briggs asked, " Razor, when did you start to pilot?" Razor, realizing the mistake he had made, answered, "Well, I wanted to see how it was..." Changing the subject he added, "We have to get out of here, Ms. Briggs, good bye." "Goodbye, thank you again," Ms. Briggs answered back, shocked at their sudden exit. She put her hand up to wave, but the TurboKat was already gone. When they arrived back at the hanger, the Swat Kats jumped out of the TurboKat and headed over to their lockers. "Holy Kats. I can't do this!" Razor exclaimed. "It's a good thing you have a way to reverse this cause pretty soon I'll probably spill our secret identities as well. If I haven't already." "It's alright, I don't think she's going to think too much of it," T-bone said as he changed out of his flight suit and into his work clothes. The rest of the day went on with Jake watching over the shop and T-bone examining the missile. Day soon became night and, after Jake closed up the shop, he went down to the hanger see how far Chance was. "How's it coming?" he asked. "Sit down in that chair," answered Chance, pointing to a chair placed by another connected by wires. "The one on the right," he added. Jake complied and sat down in the right chair, soon Chance followed over. "Give me your hand," he asked. Jake did and asked, "What are you going to do?" "Well, this wrist link will connect you to me neurally. So, when I send a special electric charge through this cord I am holding, your mind can switch back into your body, and mine can do the same," answered T-bone. "Special charge?" "Yeah, to reverse the condition I have to shock us again, but this time with it will be with electricity from my shield depolarized and mixed with the ghost technology. In theory, it should reverse the damage..." "Wait, in those movies, don't you have to have some gadget connecting our heads to each other?" "This isn't the movies, buddy, and all nerve impulses in your wrist go straight to your brain. So, it's a perfect gateway in and out." "Well, just don't fry me...." "The shock is controlled, it only lasts five seconds. That should be plenty of time for things to change back..." Chance sat down in the chair left of Jake. He attached the wrist link and put his finger over a red button. "Ready?" "Yes, it will be nice to change clothes in my own body once again..." He looked over at Chance, "And, to not have to look at myself... I feel like a mirror..." He looked forward again. "Let's go..." With that said, Chance pushed the button, and both Kats felt the electricity go through them. Five seconds passed, and the electricity stopped. Both Kats were unconscious. A few minutes passed, and, slowly, Chance awoke first. He slowly opened his eyes and saw that his perspective of the room had changed. He looked to the left, nothing. Then, to the right, and he saw Jake. He looked down at his wrist and the fur color. It was light brown, just as it was supposed to be. He smiled, then took off the wrist link. He stood up and walked over to Jake. He bent down, placed his paws on his shoulders and shook him. "Hey, Jake, wake up." Jake grunted, then slowly his eyes opened. "What did you call me?" he asked, still a bit dazed. "Jake, I called you by your name..." answered Chance. Jake smiled as he stretched. "It worked," he replied softly. "Yep, it did," said Chance as he smiled again. Jake tried to get up but was too tired from the whole episode that he just laid back and fell asleep. Chance, not wanting to bug him, left his tired buddy alone and went back up top to get something to eat and watch a little TV. Jake spent the rest of the night asleep in the hanger while Chance, after dinner and ScardyKat, slept in his bed. The next day was Saturday, and business was little to none. The day went by very quickly and, before both Kats knew it, it was nighttime. Chance was down in the hanger working on the punching bag when Jake came down. Jake was dressed in his karate gi, and Chance soon noticed him. "What's the outfit for?" he asked. "I was in your body for more than twenty-four hours, and I never took advantage of your obvious height and strength over me... And, I'm ready to kick your butt for that comment you made a couple nights ago. Cause I've had full range of your 'guns,' and they were nothing more than show..." challenged Jake. "Show?!?" exclaimed Chance. "You're on, Swat Kat!" And, with that, Jake and Chance went into a one on one battle that didn't end until early the next morning... The End As a personal comment: If you liked this or any of my stories, you should also check out three authors I enjoy. Kristen Sharpe, C.L Furlong, and the author who got me writing, James L King. (These authors have just blown me away with their writing ability; I hope you check their stories out.) Have a good day.
