Vacation Blues Part 2 Jake grabbed the receiver. He had not expected anyone to call at this time in the morning. He was slightly irritated because the phone had woke him up. "Chance and Jake's..." He was cut off by the caller. "Do you have my car fixed?" came a desperate voice. Jake didn't know what to say. "Who is this?" he asked. "This is ..." There was a pause. "Trevor Furson." Jake had to think for a minute. Then he remembered. "Yes, Mr. Furson, your car is fixed. What time will you...?" the other end clicked as Trevor hung up. Jake hung up the phone. He stretched and headed to the garage. He opened the big garage door. Then, he walked over to Trevor's car. The battery had charged all night, so he unhooked the battery charger and turned on the engine. It purred like a kitten. Satisfied with his handy work from the day before, Jake went to the hanger to work on some missiles. About an hour and a half later, he heard Chance get up and yell something. He climbed up the secret entrance and joined Chance in the living room. Trevor was there and he was handing Chance the money for the repairs. "Gee, you guys are great!" Trevor said. "Thanks for getting my car fixed so fast!" With that, Trevor walked into the garage and took off. Chance was still in a daze. He looked at the money in his hands. Trevor had not stayed long enough to get his change. "He sure is in a hurry!" Chance exclaimed. --------------------------------------------------------------------- It was late in the afternoon when an Enforcer car pulled up in front of the Metal Salvage Yard. Chance was the first to see it and he walked over to the door to check it out. He watched as two Enforcers got out of the car. They were followed by another kat. He kept his head hung low and his hat pulled over his eyes. Chance strode towards the Enforcers. "Are you Chance Furlong or Jake Clawson?" asked the larger one. I'm Chance," he said. "What's this all about anyway?" He stared as the other Enforcer handed him a paper signed by Feral. He glanced over it. Then he erupted at what it said. "What do you mean a new mechanic? We're doing just fine!" "Look, Mr. Furlong, Commander Feral gave us this order, so if you have a problem with it then you need to take it up with him," barked the larger one. The two Enforcers did an about face and walked back to the Enforcer vehicle and drove off. The kat they left behind started to shift uncomfortably. Chance took his eyes off the paper and looked him over. Then he recognized the grey fur. "Well, if it isn't Mr. Furson." Chance said. Trevor winced at what he said. He looked up and met Chance's gaze. "Let's go inside," Chance's voice was bitter. Reluctantly, Trevor followed Chance inside the garage. Chance walked into the room and handed the notice to Jake. A few moments of silence went by until Jake directed his gaze from the paper to Trevor. "So, Feral's still into the life wrecking business to cover up his own mistakes again." Jake's comment was sarcastic. "Why don't you tell us what happened." He gestured for Trevor to take a seat. Trevor sat his duffel bag on the floor and took a seat on the nearby stool. For the next half-hour he relayed the day's events. He had gone to Enforcer HQ to sign the necessary paperwork to become a MegaKat City citizen. The paperwork would go into effect thirty days after they were turned in. He had just left when he heard sirens behind him. He had looked into his rearview mirror and seen the four Enforcer vehicles. In front of him were some kittens who were chasing after a runaway ball across the road. He was in between them and the kittens were not going to have enough time to get out of the way. Apparently they had not heard the sirens. He knew the Enforcers could not see them. He had pulled his car over and jumped out. He waved for them to stop. They didn't slow down. Trevor dove out of the way as the first car swerved to miss him. Consequently, the other three Enforcer vehicles did the same. The result was one major accident. The final Enforcer vehicle had been transporting a prisoner. He escaped during all the chaos. The lead car's driver, Lt. Steele, was extremely angry with Trevor. Commander Feral, who had been in the rear vehicle, was even more angry. He demanded to know why Trevor had done what he done. Trevor told him about the kittens and Steele went to investigate. Even though the kittens were found and reports were filed he was still in big trouble. Feral went over countless other options that would not have resulted in such chaos. Trevor knew each option would not have worked since the annoying Lt. Steele would not have slown down for nothing. For his recklessness Feral told him he would be sent to the Metal Salvage Yard to make up for the cost of repairing the enforcer vehicles. He was also fined for allowing the prisoner Hardrive to escape. Trevor had asked why he had not been jailed for the accident. Feral stated that he felt the punishment should fit the crime. He also said that he would let Trevor off the hook this one time. "Some off the hook," snorted Chance. "Sounds like he wants someone else to pay for his own mistake." "Actually, it was Lt. Steele's fault," Trevor piped in. "If it was anyone's fault, it would be his. He had more than enough time to slow down." Jake had been silent the whole time. He had been thinking of ways to keep Trevor from finding out that Chance and himself were the Swat Kats. He had already come up with a plan by the end of the story. "Are you staying anywhere else other than here?" Jake asked. If Trevor had an apartment, then the whole situation would be better. "No," Trevor said. "Feral stated that I had to live here to." The news made Chance flinch. Unlike his partner he had not thought of what to do with Trevor. Suddenly, Jake got an idea. "Well, we wouldn't want to disobey the Commander, now would we?" he joked. "Chance, can you take Trevor to the storage room across from our rooms and clear it out?" Chance gave him a puzzled look. "Uhh,.. sure buddy, whatever you have to say," Chance replied. He was hoping his partner had a plan to get them out of this jam. While Chance and Trevor cleaned out the storage room, Jake went around to cover up anything that would hint to him that they were the Swat Kats. After he had done that, he found the extra hammock and an old dresser and had Chance put them in Trevor's room. Then Jake took Trevor on a tour of the Salvage Yard pointing out places where Trevor should never go due to the unknown junk there. He invented some story about how Feral had told even them to stay away. With the TurboKat's launch site covered, he showed him around the garage. He warned Trevor to not go back into the storage room in the back. It was dangerous for any kat who had no idea what was back there. Something could fall and hit him or worse. Chance had been listening the whole time. He reminded Jake that something had to be said about the TurboKat when it launched and the alarm klaxon. Jake explained to Trevor that Enforcer jets sometimes flew very low because they wanted to annoy them. "Being former Enforcers and all..," he said at the end of his explanation. Trevor nodded his head in agreement to not go running around outside everytime he heard a jet fly by. The alarm klaxon was the hardest to come up with a gimmick. Jake had saved it for last and still didn't have any ideas. Suddenly, Chance spoke up. "A lot of times we get people who try to steal stuff. We have an alarm to warn us about that kinda stuff. Then, we have to go chase them down and then file reports and..." Trevor cut him off. He understood. He promised to let them handle anything that had to do with the alarm klaxon. With everything covered the three turned in for the night. Jake looked at the clock as his head hit the pillow. It was nearly midnight. "This is not going to be easy," he thought as he drifted off to sleep. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Callie walked out of the movie theatre. She sighed. Another lonely vacation that she would have to spend by herself. She had hoped that this would not be the case this time. She thought about all the tom-kats she knew. There were none to her knowledge that would go out on date with her because they were all too old. Maybe she could call the Swat Kats and have them over for dinner. "Nah! That would be too weird!" she said to herself. It was nearly midnight when she reached her apartment. Then, it hit her. The two mechanics, Chance and Jake, were single! Maybe one of them could spend an evening with her? Then, she rejected the thought. "I can see the tabloids now...." She was cut off when a pair of claws closed around her mouth. She broke free and whirled around. "Dr. Viper!" she shouted. "How niccce of you to remember me, Missss Briggssss," he laughed and caught her with his tail as she tried to run away. Callie had pulled her communicator out, but it fell on the ground. "Come now, Misss Briggsss. You wouldn't want to missss all the fun?" He laughed again as he pulled a flask out of his lab coat. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Trevor woke up with a start. Some kind of alarm was going off in one part of the garage. Before he could get his bearings, he fell out of his hammock. He picked himself up and ran out into the hallway. He smacked into Chance and fell backwards. Before Chance could say something, Jake ran between them and to the back of the garage. "Yes, Miss Briggs?" Jake asked. "Don't ssstruggle, Misss Briggsss." came a snakey voice. He heard Callie scream. Then, everything was silent. "Miss Briggs?" he knew she was gone. He went over to his computer and tracked her signal. "Bingo!" he shouted. Chance was doing his best to keep Trevor from following Jake. "Remember that we were Enforcers and we are expected to do this job." Chance was proud of what he had just said until Trevor shot back. "Were." Trevor was no creampuff. He had studied the martial arts ever since he was six. He wanted to help. Chance was about to reply when Jake ran into the room. "Let's move partner!" he said. Then, he turned to Trevor. "Trevor can you stay here in case something else happens?" Trevor sighed and agreed. He went back into his room while Jake and Chance ran to the hanger. "He's going to be a problem," Chance said as they changed. "We'll worry about him later, Callie's in trouble," Jake said. They jumped into the TurboKat and took off. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Callie found herself in another abandoned warehouse. She didn't know what to think. Why did she always have to be the object of desire for every villain in MegaKat City? Dr. Viper was going around pouring the chemical onto other helpless tied up kats. Many of them looked like they were homeless. Callie started to cry when she saw what was happening to the others. They screamed in pain as each of them mutated into various creatures. "Don't cry, Misss Briggsss," came Dr. Viper's slithery voice. "Because you will be joining them ssssoon." Wild laughter filled the warehouse. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- "Aww Crud, Razor!" T-Bone said. He punched a wall. They found Callie's communicator, but there was no Callie. Razor looked around for any clues. There were signs of a slight struggle. He racked his brain as to who could have done this. He thought back to the transmission. He knew who had her. "Viper," Razor said. T-Bone turned around and gave Razor a puzzled look. Razor ran over to the TurboKat. He jumped into his seat and started to scan the area around MegaKat swamp. The only place of interest was an old abandoned warehouse. "Bingo!" he shouted. T-Bone was still puzzled. "Hop in, buddy, we're going to MegaKat Swamp." T-Bone jumped in and piloted the TurboKat towards the coordinates that Razor had given him. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Callie stared in horror as Dr.Viper started towards her. If only she could break free! The roar of the Turbo Kat signaled the arrival of the Swat Kats. "Curse those Swat Katsss!" Dr. Viper hissed. A few moments later, T-Bone crashed through the door. He was followed by Razor, who didn't look to happy about what T-Bone had done. "Swat Kats!" Callie yelled "It's a trap!" No sooner had she said that then they were tackled by the mutant kats. Dr. Viper stepped out of the shadows. Razor was struggling to break free. He was being attacked by some plant-like kats! This gave him an idea. "Mini match-head missiles deployed!" the two plant/kats erupted into flames. Meanwhile, T-Bone was bashing the heads of the two bird/kats together. No sooner had they broken free than more of the mutants jumped out of the shadows. Dr. Viper slithered his way over to Callie. "Maybe you will be my persssonnel pet?" he mocked as he went to splash the remaining chemical on her. "NO!" shouted T-Bone. He immediately broke free of the mutants and charged Dr.Viper. He hit Viper with such a strong force that it sent him flying back against the wall. The flask flew out of his claws and shattered on the floor. T-Bone turned around and untied Callie. "Thanks," she said. T-Bone grabbed her by her paw and they bolted for the door. "Razor! Let's go!" he shouted to his partner just as Razor managed to break free. They ran outside and boarded the TurboKat. "I'm sorry." was all Callie could say as Razor barraged the old warehouse with missiles destroying it completely. "Those poor kats" she said. T-Bone and Razor knew how she felt but there was nothing they could do to help them. "Do you think Viper escaped?" T-Bone asked as they flew to Callie's apartment. "Nah!" was all Razor said.
