Kacey stumbled down the steep path she was hiking down. The young, dark ginger she-kat stopped on top of a rock that looked over the canyon. A cool breeze brought the smell of an approaching storm. The sun shone brightly and baked the ground. Taking out her camera, Kacey looked around for things to take pictures of her.

“I wish there’d be more animals in this canyon,” Kacey mumbled to herself as she took a picture of a crooked tree growing in between two rocks.

A small stream gently ran down the side of the steep canyon side. The water was cool and inviting for anything that dared to wander around the dry canyon. Huge, sand caked paws dipped into the cool water. A rough, pink tongue lapped up the refreshing water.

Kacey climbed around the rocks, looking for something more interesting to take pictures of. The babbling of the small stream reached her brown tipped ears. She figured that, if there were any animals, they’d be near the stream. The thirteen year old she-kat jumped on top of a rock that hung over the stream.

Large, sandy brown and black ears twitched as the scraping of rocks hit them. The creature unsheathed its claws and stepped out of the water. Small tail twitching, it started to walk downstream and away from the noise.

“Whoa,” Kacey whispered to herself as she turned off the flash on her camera, not wanting to scare the creature.

The creature turned its head around and saw the small she-kat. It broke into a run. Stones and pebbles skidded down the steep canyon side as the big cat ran towards the bottom.

“Man, that thing was big!” Kacey stood up straight and watched the cat run down to the bottom. “I’ve gotta show Dad this.”

Back at the salvage yard, Kit, Chance’s fourteen year old son, was playing around with his four year old sister. Kacey walked through the door and looked around. She ran up the stairs, right past Kit and Josie.

“Hey, where ya going?” Kit asked as Kacey whisked past him.

“I saw something big down in the canyon,” Kacey said as she stopped at the top of the stairs then looked down. “Where’s my Dad?”

“He’s in the hanger,” Kit answered as Josie jumped on top of him, about knocking him over.

“Right,” Kacey ran back down the stairs and over to the secret hatch that led down into the hanger.

Jake was underneath the sleek black jet, and Chance was on top of the wing. Kacey slid down the ladder rather than climbing down. Her camera in her hand, she made her way over to where Jake was.

“Dad, you have to see what I saw down in the canyon today!” Kacey mewed as she stopped by her Dad’s feet.

Jake crawled out from under the jet. Oil and grease was streaked across his face.

“Alright, what’d you see that was so interesting?” Jake pulled a red rag from his back pocket and wiped his hands on it.

“Look,” Kacey brought the picture back up on her digital camera.

“Whoa,” Jake ran his finger over the body shape of the cat. “Look at how huge it is. And, look at this.” He pointed to some streaks of white dropping down from its mouth. “Those look like sabers.”

“I’m gonna enlarge it on my computer so we can see it better.” Kacey raced off and back up the ladder.

Jake looked up at Chance, who was sitting on the wing of the jet. Something was uneasy. That single picture was very odd.

“Chance, that cat looked like a saber-tooth.” Jake rubbed his hand across his face. “That’s all we need, a giant saber-tooth eating everybody.”

“Well, maybe it hasn’t found its way out of the canyon yet,” Chance suggested, a slight smile on his face.

“Well, let’s hope it hasn’t,” Jake sighed and crawled back under the jet.

Commander Felina Feral sat down on a bench in MegaKat Park. A cool breeze blew through the park. Street lamps lit up the dark park. Felina was in a denim jacket, white t-shirt, and blue jeans.

“I’m glad it’s been quiet the past week,” Felina chuckled to herself and took a deep breath of the fresh air.

A faint white light appeared in some trees. Clear crystal like shapes circled around a dim white light that shimmered. Sounds could be heard on the other side of it.

Felina twisted her ears backwards. A quiet but unusual rustling sound came from behind her. Heaving, she shoved herself up off the bench and walked towards the trees.

A little creature sat in the unfamiliar trees. Leathery skin stretched from its back legs to its extended fingers. Needle sharp teeth stuck out of its beak.

Felina looked around for where the noise was coming from. The dim white light caught her eye though. Curiosity got the better of her. She walked over to the shimmering crystals and stuck her hand out to touch one of them. The crystal went right through her hand and continued circling the white light.

“Weird,” Felina whispered to anything that was listening.

The bird like lizard turned its head towards Felina. Twisting its head, it made a funny little cooing noise.

Felina turned and took her gun out of its holster. The little creature jumped down on to a lower branch and spread out its wings. The she-kat lowered her gun and looked puzzled at the creature.

“That looks like a dino,” Felina mewed to herself. She turned back around to the dim white light. Carefully, she stuck her hand in.

Something hard and rough smacked her hand. Hissing, Felina pulled it back and aimed her gun. A low groan came from the other side. Suddenly, a beak with needle sharp teeth spiking out of it came through the dim white light. Then a head with eagle like black eyes came into view. The bird like reptile stood as tall as Felina, maybe even taller than her uncle. It continued to walk forward. The tall tan she-kat was too stunned, too stunned to even notice another creature come up behind her.

To be continued…
