New Home Part 2: Trials Alex McQuown a.k.a. "Fang" amcquown@hotmail.com Fang waited until nightfall to approach the Enforcer Academy. Moving silently through the streets towards the Academy not more than two blocks away, Fang noticed something. 'Hmm, none of these "Enforcers" are patrolling this area. Not very smart.' Fang was now standing not more than ten feet from the razor-wired fence. He double checked for any kind of security or cameras. 'Damn, I wish I brought my night-vis goggles, can't see a goddamned thing.' Fang kept on comtemplating how he got here, but couldn't find any explanation. as his eyes adjusted to the unusual dark near the Academy, he saw no types of security devices. 'Damn, not even a security camera. Must be too damned proud of themselves to take extra precautions. Idiots. No guards either. What were these people smoking when they built this place?' Fang was muttering all this as he scanned the area. Dawn was just starting, and Fang jumped the fence, but he underestimated the power needed to clear the razor-wire, and sliced himself on his knee. He landed, cursing out a mean streak. Looking around for someplace to hide, he found a stack of barrels, and moved quickly behind them. He noticed that the fence was lower behind him, and thought of jumping that fence if he needed to escape. Three hours later, someone finally showed up. The figure was huge, and Fang was amazed at the air of command around him. 'How the hell am I supposed to get his attention without him spotting me?' Fang saw a wall nearby, and used a little voice bouncing trick he learned when he was a kid. He whistled sharply at the wall, making the echoes head straight for the tall figure. The figure's ears turned towards the wall as well as the person. The person finally spoke up: "Who's There? Come out, you're under arrest for trespassing." Fang smiled at the way this person stayed in control. 'I might as well not waste my time.' "I'm not trespassing, I'm here to train and join the Enforcers. And I'm not showing myself, not yet any- ways. Not until I'm sure that I can trust you. Who are you? I'll only talk to someone if I know their name." Fang was getting uneasy. The figure spoke again. "This is Commander Feral. Show yourself." Fang laughed loud. "If you saw me, you'd either shoot me dead or you would turn me into some kind of lab experiment. No thanks. But I will tell you this. I'm not from this planet, and I'm the last of my kind. You wouldn't wanna waste information by shooting me now would you?" Feral decided to try to gain his trust by risking his life. He unstrapped his gun and ammo and threw it towards the wall. "Ok there's my promise that I won't shoot you. I can only give my word about not turning you into a lab experiment. No one is going to arrive for another four hours. Have I earned your trust yet?" Fang eased down a few notches. "Yea, I guess. Barely. By the way," Fang said as he stood up, "I'm over here. Name's Fang. Good to meet ya Feral." Feral's jaw dropped to the ground, and, after a few seconds of staring, tried to regain some composure. "You weren't kidding. I can tell that you aren't from this planet. Show me your face." Fang instantly replied. "No not yet." Feral got a bit miffed at being told 'No', but he calmed down some. "Nice trick you got there, bouncing your voice off of the wall to mislead me. Not a nice thing to try on me in the future, but a nice trick, nonetheless." Fang loved compliments. "Thanks. Give me one promise. Let me try out for the Enforcers, then you can see my face. But I don't want anyone else to see me. Make it a private training. The only thing I know how to do anyways is law enforcement." Feral considered for a moment. "Ok. How about this, tomorrow night, around eight, I'll meet you here. You will recieve your trials and testing. You have a place to stay?" Feral asked, hoping to find out where Fang stayed. Maybe he could spy on Fang and learn some info on him. "Yea, I've got a place to stay." Feral got a bit excited. "Where, I might need to contact you if necessary." Fang had a quick answer to that. "No, you haven't earned my full trust. I'll tell you later." Feral let out a growl of dis- appointment. "Alright. But be here at eight sharp." Fang turned on his heels and took one hard leap, and cleared the razor-wire this time. He shot off at a pace Feral could not believe. His eyes almost popped out of his head. Feral went back to the wall and strapped his gun back to himself. 'I'll have to keep him a secret. At least until he's on the force. I hope he turns out to be good. He could be a valuable addition to the Enforcers.' Feral wanted to follow him badly, but knew he could never catch up with him. Besides, he had new recruits to train. He would just have to wait. By the time Fang had made it back to the salvage yard, it was almost full daylight. He was tired, and the knock on the head from the net wasn't doing him any good, either. As he opened the door with a bit more force than intended, Jake, Chance, and Chance's girlfriend, Felina looked up. Jake and Chance said "Hi.", Felina screamed something incoherent and almost fainted, and Fang just passed out, falling face first onto the floor, causing more damage to his head. Blood seeped out of his nose, which took the full impact of the floor. Felina regained her composure, and started talking. "What the FUCK is that THING?" She turned to Jake and Chance, "You two know him? When was I going to be let in on this? What the fuck is going on?" Chance looked at the unconcious Fang and laughed, while Jake ran over to Fang and settled him on a nearby cot. Looking at Fang, Jake determined that nothing was broken or cracked. "Uhh, Chance?" Chance looked at Jake. "What?" Jake was thinking of someway to help Fang. "Get me a cold wet towel, some head wrap, and some asprin. This boy's gonna have one hell of a headache when he gains conciousness." Chance looked displeased, but gave in. "Okay, but who's gonna play nursemaid to wolfie here? We have to work you know." Felina remembered that she had the day off, but she kept her mouth shut. Chance remembered too, and he looked into her eyes, asking her to help him. Felina couldn't resist Chance's look, so she gave in. "I'll do it, I have the day off today." Jake calmed down a bit. Jake remembered something. "Felina, whenever he comes around, stand back a few feet, he tends to stretch out very quickly, and when he comes around, he gets really grouchy. Just be nice, and don't offend him in any way. His name's Fang." Felina laughed, "I can see why he is called Fang. Those teeth could probably bite through agricite. Don't worry, I'll be REAL nice." Jake thanked Felina and ran off to get started working. Chance walked over and kissed Felina, then followed Jake. Felina sat down and kind of observed Fang. 'Strong arms, muscled chest, too much fur, looks cute unconcious.' Felina laughed at that last thought. Fang was like Chance physically, a bit taller, and looked more than capable of taking care of himself. 'He could probably rip someone into shreds, and he doesnt have claws. Only thing wrong is that he doesn't look like any of us.' Felina leaned closer to Fang, noticing a scar. 'What's this? Hmm... what gave him this?' She thought as she ran a finger down the scar on his chest. Just then, Fang awoke with a start, then made a loud noise like a gunshot as he stretched all joints with lightning speed. He passed out for a split second, then awoke again, screaming as if he had a nightmare. A BAD nightmare. He jumped up and got the head rush of his life. The pain nearly caused him to black out. Jake and Chance rushed in, this time Chance tripped on an electrical cord. Fang, hearing the muffled cursing of Chance and the proceeding thud, knew what happened, even with his eyes closed. Fang started laughing. Chance got up and growled at Fang. "Watch it pal, you just might end up unconcious again. Fang laughed a bit more at Chance's petty threat, then moaned as he touched his head and felt his nose and the lump over his eye. "Please tell me you have an asprin. This sucks." Chance laughed this time and Fang did nothing except groan in pain. Felina grabbed the asprin while Jake grabbed a glass of water and handed it to Fang. Fang accepted the glass, and took the pills from Felina. he downed the pills, and then slugged the water down. "Man, I feel like I got fucked over at some party. What happened?" Jake looked at Fang, then decided to tell him. "you opened the door, passed out, hit your head on the floor, and started a nosebleed. How did your run to the Enforcer academy go?" Felina was surprised at the question. Fang mumbled something incoherent, remembering he sliced his knee open on the razor wire. bending his leg, he removes a sliver of metal from the wound, then flipped it to the ceiling tiles, in which it embedded nicely. "I met someone called Commander Feral, and he offered to train and test me privately." Felina jumped at the mention of her uncle's name and blurted out "You are going to be an Enforcer? What for?" Fang explained that all he really knew was mechanics and law enforcement. Felina sized him up. "If you could keep yourself from passing out, you might make a good Enforcer." Fang just laughed and pointed at Jake and Chance. "You can blame them for me passing out, when they grabbed me in the canyon, their net smacked me square on my head." Fang's stomach growled at him. "You got anything to eat?" Jake ran off to the refridgerator and grabbed a half a bucket of Mongo Peppers. Fang loved spicy foods, and could not resist this treat. In less than five minutes he had eaten all of the blazing peppers. Jake and Chance stared in shock. Neither of the two could ever do that. They usually had contests on who could eat the most before getting water or giving up. Jake won the last one. He put a slice of cucumber in his mouth before starting, and Chance ran out of the room, towards the sink, and drank to his content. Fang remembered his manners, and went outside and belched. The only reason being that Felina was a lady, and he at least could be polite. then at the thought of Felina, he remembered his old girlfriend. he nearly broke down, but instead of diong that there in front of Jake and Chance and Felina, he ran towards a maze of cars. When he felt that he was safe, he started sobbing. Jake had excellent ears, though. He ran toward the noise, and followed it until he found Fang, tears dripping from his chin. Jake put his hand on Fang's shoulder, and offered help, but Fang declined, saying that this was something that he just needed to get out of his system. Jake went back to the garage, and Chance saw him leaving the maze of cars, asked Jake what was up. Jake explained, and Chance immediately changed some feelings about Fang. "Damn, I never knew he had that kind of side to him. I thought that he was just some bad ass son of a bitch who didn't give a shit about anyone else. Maybe he does have a sensitive side. I'm kinda sorry I threatened him and taunted him." Chance had remorse all over his face. Fang stopped sobbing and stared at the sun, his sunglasses scattering light beams this way and that. Then he looked around and saw something that lifted his spirits. 'An old chopper! Maybe I could customize this baby and have something for the Enforcers when I join!' It was late now, and Fang needed some rest for his little project, not to mention his training. He went back inside. Jake was working on something, and looked up to see a happier Fang. 'What got him so excited?' Noises were coming from Chance's bedroom. Fang grabbed the cot he was on, and dragged it next to the cage he was held in a couple of days back. He fell asleep planning his chopper. 'What weapons should I put on it? How thick should the armor be?' His last thought before he drifted off was the biggest problem. 'What should I name the chopper?' _____________________________________________________________________________ This is my second Fanfiction short story about my possible RPG character, Fang.
