New Home Part 3: Wolfsbane Alex McQuown a.k.a. "Fang" amcquown@hotmail.com "Fang" is my character. He may be used in a story only with my permission. Please e-mail me at the above address to ask for permission. I will usually grant it. Thanks. Fang was proud of himself. He was accepted into the Enforcers. He now had a job, a home, and his work at the salvage yard had created a new chopper design. He now felt that he had a reason to live again. The Enforcers never saw his face, but he was planning on showing them his face, soon enough. But first he had to do a few things. Fang arrived at the salvage yard very early in the morning. No one heard him come in, pack the rest of his stuff, and get ready to say his goodbyes. Jake and Chance awoke to the sound of their alarm clock, which Chance eagerly smacked into the wall, shutting it up. Chance had fallen asleep watching Jake's favorite show, David Litterbin. Jake fell asleep on the couch, but was halfway perched on the arm of the couch. Chance stretched out lazily, unknowingly knocking Jake off the couch, onto the floor. "Hey!! Watch it!" Chance looked at Jake sheepishly. "Sorry bud. Didn't know you were there." Fang was in a chair behind the couch. He just laughed. Chance and Jake turned to see where the noise was coming from, both surprised at the sudden appearance of Fang. "Shit!" Chance exclaimed. "Because of you, I just lost 2 of my lives!" Fang couldn't contain himself any further, and Fell to the floor, laughing his ass off. "You two are always good for a laugh!" He got serious then. "I'm leaving now. I have quarters at the Enforcer building. I've got the rest of my stuff, except my weapon. Jake, I gave it to you. You remember where you put it?" Jake's eyes rolled in his head, thinking. "Umm, I think I left it under the couch. Since I'm on the floor anyways, I'll see if it's still there." Jake lifted the couch, flipping Chance off of the couch. Jake reached underneath and pulled out Fang's piece and ammo belt. He threw them at Fang, who caught them and strapped them back to himself. "Thanks." Fang drew the gun and examined it, making sure it wasn't loaded, and that it didn't have any blemishes and the sights were still aligned. It was in good condition. This was his favorite weapon, one that was given to him by his father. He had become quite adept at handling it, and was an expert shot with it. It used a bullet similar to those in an M-16 rifle, but this one had explosive tips. The shell was smaller, but the bullet was the same size as the one used in the M-16. He had a normal sized clip, but it held 40 rounds, due to the bullet's small size. Fang put it back in his holster. Shaking hands with Jake and Chance, he said his goodbyes. Jake was a little uneasy with goodbyes. He was going to miss Fang. "Promise to visit?" Jake asked a bit unsteadily. "Of course! I wouldn't wanna lose my only source of humor, now would I?" Fang chuckled. Chance just shook his hand and grinned. "I hope you do come back, I wanna see how good you are at hand-to-hand combat!" Fang grinned and shot back "You sure? I might give you a big lump on your head like I once had! Besides, you are the SwatKats, I'll most likely be seeing you whenever things get touchy. I'll be waiting to see how you can fly." Chance could not pass up an opportunity to brag. "You'd be surprised when I pass you up in our jet, while you're in that junk heap of yours." "Oh, really? Everything on my chopper is perfect, I just need to name it. And I have the proper name for it, too." Chance wanted to hear this. Fang continued. "Her name is Wolfsbane. Kinda fits, seeing how I am part wolf." Jake was confused. "Part wolf?? What do you mean?" Fang smiled. "I never told you of my bloodline, did I? My father was a wolf, but my mother..." Jake cut in. "..was a kat??? How is that possible?" Jake wanted to know this. "During a little visit to some other planet, my father rescued a she-kat from a firing squad. He had fallen in love with her. So had she. The rest you can guess. I am only 15, you should know. But they died due to some crime. Then the solar flare came, and I was herded onto a ship. I am an adult, by my people's standards. I explained all that to Commander Feral. Anyways, the only part of me that is kat is my eyes. That's why I wear these glasses. I prefer not to have my eyes showing." Fang started to whisper to Jake. Chance couldn't hear, and he wanted to, badly. "Jake, the reason why I ran out to the maze of cars, Felina looks exactly like my mother, just younger." Jake understood now. "Promise not to tell Chance until I'm gone, okay?" Jake grinned. "SwatKats' honor." Fang turned and handed Chance a small black box. "What's this?" Chance asked. "A small tracking/transmitter device. You need to contact me, of find out where I am, just press the little black button here. It will direct you to me. Press the green button, You'll start up a direct radio link to me. It can't be traced, the Enforcer's radioes can't scan that high a frequency." Chance looked at the box, then smiled. "Cool. I wish I had another one of these gadgets. I could plant it on Feral and disturb him when he goes to the bathroom!" Fang, Chance, and Jake burst out laughing. The laughter finally died down. "I'll see you guys around. Dont trip over anything while I'm gone, I wanna see that personally!!!" Fang walked out of the garage, started up his new chopper without it making a noise, and flew off back to Enforcer Headquarters. Jake's jaw dropped. "How did he manage to make it run that silent?" Chance didn't know, and shrugged his shoulders. 'Good to have a new home, now.' Fang thought as he finished unpacking the rest of his stuff. There was a knock at his door. Fang put on his helmet, masking his face, and answered the door. It was Feral. Fang welcomed him in, and shut and locked the door. Removing his helmet, he started a conversation with the Commander. "Welcome. Make yourself at home." Fang pulled out a couple of cigars, and offered one to Commander Feral. Feral took the offered cigar and lit it up. Fang lit his up and sat down, the Commander taking a seat across from him. "Thanks. Usually I wouldn't come and visit like this, but since I have free time, I decided to get to know you better. The entire force is very curious about you. I've been pressured many times about this. Tell me, would you like to meet the mayor of MegaKat City?" Fang has heard plenty about Mayor Manx, especially how he cowers at the first sign of danger. He wanted to meet him and see how he would react to his wolfish appearance. That would be a kick. "Sure. But don't you think he would hide at the first sight of me?" Feral was all smiles. "Most likely, but once he finds out that you are no threat to him, he'll give you a warm welcome." Feral looked throughout Fang's quarters, his eyes finally resting on the gun that Fang hanged up on the wall, next to the ammo belt. "Nice," Feral motioned to the gun. "Where did you get that? I've never seen anything like it." Fang stared at the gun for a moment, remembering. "My father gave it to me, before he was killed. My fault really, I was a law enforcement officer, and once they found out where I lived, the gang that I busted destroyed my house, and killed my father and mother. I got them back. Payback's a real bitch when you're facing me." Feral just kept on staring at the gun. "May I?" Fang loved the chance to show off his piece. "Sure, go on ahead, it's not loaded." He picked up the gun and handed it to Feral, who was surprised at it's light weight. "Is it powerful? It seems too light to pack a punch." Fang grabbed a round from a clip on his ammo belt, and carefully handed it to Feral. "Don't drop it, and don't bounce it around or toss it into the air. It's explosive tipped." Feral looked at the bullet, which seemed too small to do any damage. "Mind if you show me how it works? I've gotta see this thing in action." Fang grabbed the gun, the bullet, and the ammo clip that the bullet came from. Grabbing his helmet, Fang put it on and strapped the gun to his side. "You got a firing range?" Feral gave a slight grin. "What good is an Enforcer station without a practice range?" Fang laughed. "Ok, lead the way." A few minutes later, they were outside at the firing range. Fang chose a 300 yard target. He loaded the clip into the gun, keeping the first bullet on the sounter he was at. As Feral stated, the Enforcers were curious about him, and a crowd gathered around him. Fang grinned and took slow but deliberate aim. Just a twitch of the finger fired the gun. the noise was barely audible, and the bullet hit the target dead center. the bullet detonated it's explosive charge, and the target was completely torn to pieces. Feral gaped at the power of the gun, and the bullet. Fang turned and had only one thing to say. "You ain't seen not a damn thing yet!" He turned quickly and jumped the counter. Since there was noone else shooting, he held the gun with one hand, and just fired at every target in sight. As the first target exploded, Fang had emptied the clip. He jumped the counter again and covered his ears. The others followed his example and did the same. The range ws nothing but explosions now, and balls of fire were coming from the center of every target. Everyone's eyes were wide and when the explosions were over, everyone erupted in a shower of cheers and applause. Fang quickly hushed the crowd, and with a small paper clip that he had found on the floor, started fiddling with the lone bullet on the counter. After a few seconds, he picked up the bullet, and threw it. "I would suggest you cover your ears, HARD." Everyone did as he asked, and the bullet landed about 200 yards away. the explosion covered a 100 yard radius, incinerating every part of the targets that were remaining. Feral was so surprised, he almost felt like promoting Fang then and there. But that would be questioned. Feral reached into his pocket, anticipating this since Fang asked for a practice range. He handed Fang a sharpshooter's medal. "You've earned it, and you haven't even done any assignments yet! You just set a record here." Fang was a bit embarassed, but accepted the pin with pride. "Sorry I can't do a repeat performance, but the remaining rounds of ammo are few, and I'm waiting for a chance to duplicate the design." Everyone didn't need a repeat performance. They were all wondering what he looked like. One finally got enough courage. "What do you look like under that helmet? We all want to meet you face to face!" A few people muttered agreements. Fang decided now was a good as time as any. "Alright, but before I do, here's a little warning. I do NOT look like you in any way, except one, my eyes." Everyone except Feral was getting excited. Feral already saw Fang. Fang removed his helmet. Everyone gasped in shock and amazement. Then Fang removed his glasses. Everyone was confused. His pupils were slitted, just like everyone else. "I'm half wolf, half kat. I'm not from this planet. And just for the record, I'm 15. Any questions?" No one dared ask. They all just walked up and shook hands with Fang. 'Well, they all trust me now. Now I can be accepted on this world. I won't need to hide my face anymore.' Suddenly an alarm blazed. "We have a break in at Pumadyne! All Enforcers to their choppers!." 'Finally! My first shot at some action!' Fang was the first to his chopper, and the first in the air. he headed towards Pumadyne. He tapped his radio tranmitter. Chance was in the middle of working on the Thundertruck when the box Fang had given him went off. Chance smacked his head on the hood and cursed himself. He grabbed it and spoke. "What's up, Fang? You wanna get your ass whipped?" "Not this time, boy," Fang spoke thru. "we have a break in at Pumadyne. I'm on my way there. These Enforcers are slow!" "Tell me about it. We're be there as soon as we can. Later." Chance ran into the garage. "Jake, there's a problem over at Pumadyne. Let's go!" They ran to their lockers, changed into their flight suits, and jumped into their jet. "T-Bone, why didn't we hear from Callie?" "Fang notified us." T-Bone hit full throttle, and the TurboKat flew out of the hangar at full speed. They passed up the swarm of choppers, and T-Bone gave them all a thumbs-up. Then he headed towards Fang's chopper, already 5 miles ahead of the Enforcers. "Damn! That chopper flies like our jet!" T-Bone muttered. Then he noticed the design of the chopper. He never really saw it that morning. He was still sleepy. "No wonder, that chopper looks halfway like our jet!" The Wolfsbane was a cross between a jet and a chopper. The body design was like the SwatKats' jet, but the propeller was there. It was solid navy blue, and the sun glimmered over the body. It moved almost as fast as the TurboKat, and had more maneuverability than the SwatKats' jet. The only question Razor had was "Where are the weapons?" T-Bone was too struck with awe to answer. Fang saw the jet behind him, and laughed. "Glad you boys could join the party. Let's get it on!" T-Bone liked his attitude. "What are you going to fight with?" Razor asked in a worried voice. "Oh.. I forgot." Fang pressed a button, and six machine guns popped out of the chopper, two above the cockpit, two underneath the cockpit, and one on each wing. Fang pressed another button and two mini missile launchers that were hidden near the back folded out like an extra pair of wings. Where they unfolded, a thick sheet of metal covered the opening they came out of, making the airframe whole. "Any more questions before we rock?" T-Bone had one. "What is the airframe made of?" Fang quickly answered. "Titanium skin with agricite plating. New process. I helped make it." T-Bone's jaw dropped. "Are you prepared for war? This is a break in, not a full-scale aerial assault!" Fang shot back "I'm always prepared for any circumstance. I also have two secret weapons, one on my person, and one on the chopper. Those are for anything else that needs to be dealt with that my normal weapons can't handle." Razor piped up. "I wanna see your chopper when this is over with!" Fang was excited. "Anytime. Let's take care of this first!" The two aircrafts had arived at Pumadyne, the Enforcers about ten miles away. Fang had a plan. "You two get in there, I'll provide air cover! Bust their asses, and bring them to me! I wanna piece of them!" T-Bone agreed, and landed the jet on the top of the building. T-Bone and Razor crashed down the door, and entered. There were no signs of anyone here. but then Fang radioed the SwatKats. "I've got a big problem up here! The Enforcer choppers are down, there are people wounded down there! I'm going to deal with whatever took down those choppers! Weapons are locked! Engagi...." The radio went to static and then went dead. T-Bone and Razor quickly checked the building, concluded it to be a trap, then raced back to the TurboKat. Fang's radio came back. "I've got minor damage to my left wing and major damage to my rotor! Switching to jet engines. These damn things look like flying plants! Time to make these sons of bitches pay!" T-Bone and Razor both knew what they were up against. "Dr. Viper!" T-Bone was pissed. "He radioed Fang. "Fang, the only thing that will stop these things is severe cold! You have to freeze them!" Fang radioed in frantically "Thanks! One of my secret weapons can do that! Give me some cover!" Fang hit a bright blue button with a crystal drawing on it. Directly underneath the nose of the chopper a pair of cannons came out. "Firing liquid nitrogen jet!" Fang called in. "Stay clear!" Fang maneuvered the chopper into a hover, turned around, and fired the jets of liquid nitrogen into the swarm of plantimals. They all turned into statues of ice, and fang fired all of his weapons at the creatures. They shattered and fell to the street, where they shattered into atoms. "Done with that problem. Next on the list, who the hell sent these ugly fuckers?" "Dr. Viper" T-Bone and Razor both answered. Just then, Dr. Viper made his appearance from a sewer cover. "Damn!" hissed Viper. "My creationssss, ruined by that new Enforcer and those accursed SwatKatsssss! I've got to essssscape!" Fang saw him and fired a jet of liquid nitrogen at him, freezing his feet to the ground. "This is Fang, give yourself up! You're under arrest!" Fang landed the chopper and completely immobilized Dr. Viper with a steel cable wrapped around him. Fang didn't bother reading him his rights, he knew enough about him already. Fang, along with the SwatKats, brought Viper to the Enforcer Headquarters, and threw him in a secure cell. "Thanks, SwatKats, but you best leave, Commander Feral might not like it when he sees you." T-Bone answered. "I know, I know. He hates us. Oh well." T-Bone glanced at Viper. "You got what you deserved, asshole. Rot in here for the rest of your life." Viper just hissed angrily at the SwatKats and Fang. The SwatKats took off in their jet before Commander Feral got back. T-Bone saw him walking and put the jet into stealth mode. Popping the cockpit open he yelled at Feral. "Hey, Feral! Your new recruit just nabbed Dr.Viper! You best hurry up and promote him!" 'What?' Feral was surprized. 'Fang got Viper? Then he does deserve a promotion!' Feral rushed into the building and up to the cells. Fang was watching Viper like a hawk when Feral arrived. Fang never took his eyes off Viper, and spoke to Feral. "Commander, this piece of shit is now behind bars. You want me to do anything to him? Torture? Tease? Beat him down like a dog?" Feral laughed and put a hand on Fang's shoulder. No, as tempting as that sounds, this is enough for my purposes. Good work, MAJOR Fang." Fang jumped up and turned towards Feral, who had his hand out to Fang, which he happily shook. "Major Fang does have a nice ring to it! Thank you Commander!" Fang saluted to Feral. "I have an idea, why don't you come over to my place after our shift is over with, I feel like having a party!" Feral liked this guy even more. "You have more of those cigars?" Fang grinned and nodded his head. "I have five boxes full back at my place. Tell me, do you mind if I invite Jake Clawson and Chance Furlong? They're the ones who found me and helped me out." Feral grumbled a bit, then lightened up. "Ok, go on ahead and invite them. I'll give them a day or two off from work. Because of them, you came here and joined. And because of you, we have Dr. Viper." Fang ran back to his quarters and phoned the salvage yard. Chance answered. "Salvage yard, Chance speaking." "Hey! Chance, you and Jake coming over to my place? I'm having a party for my promotion. Feral gave you guys a day or so off to come on by!" Chance was surprised. "Feral gave us some time off? You must be best buds with him. He despises us!" "Oh, I know that. But since you're the reason that I joined the force, he said that you're welcome to come! Party starts about eight tonight. A few other Enforcer friends are coming. By the way, how does Major Fang sound?" Chance jumped for joy. "Major Fang has one hell of a ring to it. So does the Wolfsbane! We'll be there at eight sharp! Later!" Fang hung up. Chance ran and told Jake what had happened and about the party. Both boys showered and got dressed in some real clothes, for once. The party was informal, so they dressed normally. Once there, they had a good time, had some champagne and a toast to Fang, and Fang and Feral lit up cigars outside, since Jake and Chance didn't smoke. a few other Enforcers showed up, and the party got started. Fang had another surprise waiting for them all. Fang told everyone to wait here, he was going to get something. Fang picked up a portable amplifier and strapped it to his back. He picked up a guitar and plugged it into a distortion pedal. He hooked up the pedal to the amp, and turned on the power. Everyone jumped at the noise of the speakers and amplifier thumping to power, and thought Fang had some kind of accident. When they rushed into his side room, everyone wondered what he had. Jake saw the strings, and immediately realized that Fang had a guitar. The others never saw one before, and were going to ask questions, but Fang calmed them down. "Hey Jake, Chance, Feral. You guys like rock music?" Jake and Chance nodded, Feral gave a slight grin. "You played in a band?" Feral asked. "Played in one? No! But I learned how to play. And on a visit to a planet called Earth, I heard a few rock and roll bands, and made recordings of the songs I liked best. You guys ready?" Everyone nodded. Fang had a hellish idea. "Commander, are these walls sound proof?" Feral shook his head. "Do you mind if I take this baby out into the hallway? Just to give the rest of the people in the building a little invite to my party?" Feral thought for a few seconds. "Okay, but keep the lyrics clean." "Lyrics? I hate lyrics. I just have the other backing sounds recorded, except for lead guitar and lyrics. Ok, here I go! This first band was called ACDC, they inspired me to learn guitar. I'll play a couple of their songs full blast. You might want to get about ten feet away, this thing gets extremely loud!" Fang ran through a list of backing tracks on a small device hooked up to the amp. He picked an appropriate song, Jailbreak. The halls boomed with guitar music all night long. He did the lyrics to Jailbreak himself, after first informing the Commander. Around one in the morning, the party ended, and everyone except Feral, Jake, and Chance went home. They went back into Fang's quarters. Fang plugged the amp into the wall and let the power cell charge. Then he went back to the living room and they talked, Fang and Feral smoked, and they all had a good time. Fang led them up to where he had his chopper, at Jake and Feral's insistence. There Fang gave out some information on the chopper, and displayed all of it's features, such as the weapons, the noiseless flight and start up, and the reason it was designed like a jet. The name of the chopper stuck in their heads, and they thought it appropriate for the stunning craft. When they all went home and went to sleep, everyone, including Chance, dreamed of flying the Wolfsbane.
