Title: Hero (See You on The Battlefield) Author: Jennifer Munoz E-mail: ryoko75@hotmail.com Date: June 6, 2002 - June 7, 2002 Author Notes: I really have to laugh. It's only now that I realize what day it is. As I lay on bed getting ready to write this sort of fanfic I remember a past history lesson. Today is the 58th anniversary of D-Day. I find it rather inspiring, and yet rather creepy I decide to start writing today. I mean just read the title. Any who, from all the positive feedback that I received from my first story (especially from Sage =^-^=) I give you my next installment. Another song-fic. This song was my first choice but something entirely different. And, just like last time I went through much debate in choosing the right song. But, eventually I picked this one and ended the argument there. This story is based Sage "Sagey" SK's "Forgotten," which I think is a brilliant piece of work in "what-if" scenarios. Enjoy y'all! __________________________________________________________________ The patrol-bots were making their usual midnight sweeps of the once inhabited neighborhood of 53rd street and Thomas. Small groups of non-metallics had been reported being seen ‘reclaiming territory' as it were. A squadron of 7X3 Hover Patrollers had also been sent out so as to cover more ground. As the searchlight passed over for the third time, Chance Furlong, along with his robotic companion Cybertron, tucked back into the alley shadows. They had managed to evade the patrol-bots by taking to the back streets, but, with the Hovers looking over the area, they'd have to stop and hide, avoid getting caught. These interruptions were warring on Chance's last nerve. "Crud," he growled, " at this rate we'll never make it before dawn." "It is best that we wait until the X4's are done searching this sector," quoted Cybertron. "Wait?! How long?! "X4 scouters are ordered to search a perimeter for no more than 20 minutes before moving on to the next. They have not located us due to your disguise." Sighing, Chance fell up against a brick wall and slumped to the ground. " I guess I should be grateful," he said. "O.k., we'll wait." Patience was never one of Chance's strongest virtues. Especially when something important like a mission was beating down on his shoulders. His goals were always clear to him. And, it was distractions like these that agitated him more. Weary, he looked towards the sky. Close to dawn and still, so many stars remain. I am so high, I can hear heaven Bright pinpricks against velvet black. Streaks of blazing orange. I am so high, I can hear heaven How he missed flying amongst those stars. Flying, with his best friend by his side. But heaven...no, heaven don't hear me That was all going to change soon. Soon, he was going to take back all that the Metallikats stole from him. The city would be free, the slaves in the work camps would be free....his partner would be free. And, no force on earth, whether it be the Metallikats or even Jake himself would stop him. And they say That a hero could save us I'm not gonna stand here and wait I'll hold onto the wings of the eagles Watch as we all fly away *********************** Ugly. Revolting. Unseemly. Unperfected. These words and others flashed by inside Jake's tortured mind one after another as he stared at his monitors. This city... its people. How dare they defy him. Him. Him. Hadn't they learned by now? Fighting only delays that which can not be avoided. Someone told me love would all save us His new world order was almost in place. Almost ready. Just needed a bit more time. Then, they'd be made to understand. What they're meant to understand. But how can that be? Look what love gave us. No one would stop him. A world full of killing No one, no one, no one, no one, no one, no one. And blood spilling "No one," said Jake, teeth clenched. "Not even you, Chance." That world never came "Just go ahead and try it.... buddy." And they say That a hero could save us I'm not gonna stand here and wait I'll hold onto the wings of the eagles Watch as we all fly away *********************** A shooting star. Now, Chance could finally make his wish. "Jake," he prayed "hang in there, pal. I'm coming. I'm coming to get ya'. It won't be long now. Tonight, I guarantee you, it's all going to end." Now that the world isn't ending. It's love that I'm sending to you. "Five years is enough. I'm not gonna wait anymore. It's going to end... tonight. Just... please, wait for me." It isn't the love of a hero. And, that's why I fear it won't do. "ChanceFurlong!" the Cybertron suddenly beeped. "The scouters are leaving!" "Now's our chance!" And they say That a hero could save us I'm not gonna stand here and wait As Chance and Cybertron began to pursue, Chance stared at the gleaming, towering Metallikat Headquarters. I'll hold onto the wings of the eagles Watch as we all fly away "I'm coming Jake. Hang on. Please." ************************* And they're watching us "Yes. Go ahead, Chance. Try all you want. All you want. Just remember..." They're watching us "In the end, it won't even matter." As we all fly away Jake smiled as he watched his former partner make his way towards HQ through an unnoticed spy camera. Such a noble effort. But, sadly, all for nothing. And they're watching us They're watching us As we all fly away "You always were the difficult one. I guess that's how you'll always be. Difficult." And they're watching us They're watching us As we all fly away "So be it then. Let the games begin." __________________________________________________________________ Author Notes: This had to be one of my hardest fanfics to write. Especially when it came to writing the beginning sequence. Sometimes I stress over too much detailing and I end up giving myself a headache. I try to keep it simple so I can avoid the headache and move on to something else. P.S. This song really helped me out. It was so powerful when I first heard it. The lyrics were perfect. Everyone! Go buy the SpiderMan soundtrack!!! Or do what I did and download it . Hurry!!! GO GO GO GO GO!! NOW!
