The StarCat Stories Part Four: The Truth or Something Like It by StarCat Summary: Jake is having a hard time telling his truth to Callie. ///*\\\ "Jake, are you alright?" Jake looked back up at Callie, holding onto the spot above his left eye. Twitch, twitch, twitch. "Yeah, great. Just a minor headache." "You want to get a drink?" Callie asked, smiling politely. Jake nodded. "Sure." They both went to the bar and Callie ordered water, while Jake ordered vodka. They sat in a filled, uncomfortable silence for a while. 'Why did he break up with me?' Callie thought to herself miserably. 'What's wrong with me? What didn't I do? Did he want me to go farther with him?' Jake didn't seem like the kind of kat who would be like that, but then again she had seen toms who were even more genial, but had ulterior motives. But, Jake...she had had a feeling about Jake... she even felt like she had loved him, though she never said it. Jake looked over at Callie. 'I wonder what she's thinking right now... Probably what she ever saw in a jerk like me.' 'He was so kind to everyone, especially me.' 'I took her by surprise with the break-up. If only there had been another way...' A small group of people had gathered around the van and the group, to get info about album deals and where they were playing next. Jack had found a really nice looking red-headed enforcer, who seemed to really like him. Shasta felt herself going light-headed, but sucked it up and made her way over to Jack. She could feel the electric crackle of sexual energy between them, and Shasta wrapped her arm around Jack's, more to steady herself then claim ownership. "Oh, hey Shas. You getting paranoid again?" Shasta forced a smile. "No." She looked at the Enforcer girl. "How are you?" She smiled a little snottily, angry at Shasta for honing in on her prey, even if she was scavenging. Jack turned to face Shasta. "Don't be like that, cupcake." He kissed her and ran a hand up her side, making a grab at her breast. Horrified yet again, Shasta just giggled and suggested that Jack stop. "You embarrassed?" He had The Look again, and Shasta just barely wriggled away. Before he caught her again and did something even more embarrassing to her, Chance came toward them. "Hey Shasta, great set." He smiled, glancing at Jack. Shasta twisted her wrist out of his hand from behind her back and put up with it as Jack began to stroke the place where her back and tail met. She sighed heavily. "Thanks." She smiled. Seeing Shasta was through with paying attention to him, Jack wandered back toward the Enforcer chick. "Chance, I left something at your house." "You did?" "Yeah my curling iron is over there." "Really? I haven't seen it-" "Come on," she said, taking his arm and leading him toward the tow truck. "Let's go." Shasta woke up at seven a.m. curled into a ball on Chance's bed. She stood and noticed that she was wearing the same thing she had for the concert. Rubbing at her eyes, she came up with a paw covered in blue mascara and green eyeshadow. She sighed, remembering her episode last night. She had had one of her little venting sessions where she cried about all the bad things Jack had a tendency of doing to her. Now that it was morning, and she was more level-headed, she realized that Jack would never do _anything_ to intentionally hurt her. She sighed again, walking toward the bathroom down the hall. Now, Chance would hate Jack even more. It would be awkward when she and Jack finally got married, which of course Shasta knew they would. Chance saw his sister go into the bathroom and walked over toward the door to listen for anything unusual. When he realized she was just showering, he breathed a sigh of relief. Just as he sat back on the couch, Jake came out of his room. "Sorry for abandoning you last night, Jake. Shasta had to get away." Jake shrugged. "That's alright." "So... how did your night go?" Jake just shrugged again and headed toward the kitchen, the night before replaying itself in his mind. Jake had had his motorcycle with him, luckily, and he had taken Callie home. When he walked her to the door, she, surprisingly, kissed him. Pulling back with a small smile, she had looked him in the eyes and asked invitingly, "Would you like to come in?" Jake had stood there dumbfounded for a second, and then shook his head. "No. I don't think that would be a good idea." Callie looked hurt for a second then, near tears, had asked, "Why did you break up with me?" "I'm sorry Callie... I can't tell you." "Is it another she-kat?" Jake had reeled at that. "Great kat! Why would you ask something like that? Of course not. You are the only she-kat for me." Callie's eyes spilled with tears. "Then, why did you leave me?" "I'm sorry, Callie." He put his helmet back on. "Goodbye."
