Unexpected Surprise Part 1 Callie Furlong woke up feeling like she was going to throw up. Running to the bathroom she made a b-line for the commode, where she sat praying to the porcelain gods for about four minutes. Hearing his wife being sick, Chance Furlong ran to her side. Speaking softly to her, Chance rubbed her back. "Callie, this is the fifth time you have been sick this week," he said when she was done. "I know, but I can't see a doctor." "Why not?" "I have too much to do." "To hell with that, Callie - I care about you. I want you to see a doctor today, or I will call your Mom." "Oh God, I give up. I'll see my doctor today on my lunchbreak." Then Callie asked, "What time is it?" "About 6:30." "My doctor's office opens at 6:00. I'll go give them a call." "Good and after that how about some breakfast?" That's when Callie hit him in the face with a towel that had been lying on the bathroom counter. Part Two Callie had been fortunate to get a 12:00 appointment with her doctor. 'What could be wrong with me that would make me sick every morning for the past two and a half weeks?' Her mind went over all the possibilities. "Calico Furlong?" the nurse called out. Standing up, she walked into the office. About ten minutes later Hearing the door open, Callie dropped the magazine she was reading. "Hello, Callie," Doctor Clare Rodas said as she came in. "What seems to be the problem?" "Well, I've been sick every morning for the past two and a half weeks and no matter how many hours of sleep I get, I'm still tired." Looking at the chart in her paws, Doctor Rodas told Callie she was long overdue for some bloodwork. "Go down to the blood lab and come back when you're done." Thirty minutes later "Well, Callie I have some interesting news. It seems to me by the amount of certain chemicals in your blood that you're about three weeks into your first trimester. But, I'll still need more blood samples to be sure. "What does that mean?" "It means that you're going to have a baby. Here, take this down to the lab. They'll do the extra bloodwork. We should have an answer for you by 2:00 clock." Taking the note from her paw, Callie said "Thankyou" and left. Leaving the office, she went straight for the lab. After the bloodwork was done, she ran to her doctor's office. It was certain. "Doctor Rodas said you are going to have a kitten." Walking to her car, Callie took her cell phone out of her purse and dialed Chance's work number.
