"Oh boy, home made fries."

"Not so fast, Dough Boy; those are my fries."

"Oh yeah?"

"Yeah."

"Okay. I'll fight you for them."

"You’re on."

Rita and Jake walked into the kitchen to see an all out french fry war carried out by Chance and Tanya. They were now fencing with the sharpest fries they could find.

"I don't know why Chance likes to come here all the time," Jake told Rita. "All he does is fight."

"Fighting's fun," Chance said as he jabbed at Tanya with his fry.

"I'm surprised you want to stay," Rita said. "Considering who should be here any minute."

"Who's going to be here?" Chance asked as he dodged Tanya's fry.

"My niece and nephews," Tanya answered.

Chance stopped fighting and started chomping on his fries.

"You don't have any nieces or nephews."

"Technically no," Tanya explained. "But, I met these kids a few years ago, and let's just say we adopted each other."

"And, speaking of the devil," Rita said as she looked out the window. "Here they come."

The doorbell rang, and Tanya went to answer it. Instead of seeing three young kittens at the door, a kat walked in pushing a large crate on wheels. He set the crate on the ground and handed Tanya a crow bar.

"Good luck." he said before heading back out the door and driving off.

"I thought you said they were here," Jake said to Rita.

"They are."

"Wait a minute," Chance put in. "You can't be saying that they're in that crate."

"Just watch," Tanya said as she pried off the top of the crate with the crow bar.

Three black and white heads popped out of the crate. Chance and Jake's mouths popped open as they stared at the odd creatures. They couldn't be kats with their floppy ears and their round, red noses. One of them jumped into Tanya's arms.

"Tanya!" he cried in a funny accent. "We missed you."

"Guys," Tanya said. "I'd like you to meet Yakko, Wakko, and Dot Warner. Kids, these are my friends Chance and Jake."

Dot took one look at Chance and jumped into his arms.

"Hello, handsome!" she said to him.

"What are you?" Chance asked as he look at the black and white creature with a pink dress in his arms.

"We're the Warner Brothers," Yakko and Wakko said together.

"And, I'm as cute as a button on a teddy bear's nose," Dot added as she pinched Chance's cheeks.

“Why is Tanya having these things over?” Jake asked Rita.

“I guess she likes them,” Rita answered. Then she leaned over and whispered. “Plus, the CEO at Warner Brothers is paying her big bucks to keep them all weekend.”

Jake wasn’t sure what Rita meant by all that. He was about to ask her when Chance dropped Dot and ran over to Jake and grabbed his arm.

“Sorry, girls,” he said as he pulled Jake to the door. “We’ve got... uh, something important to do. See ya!”

The two tom kats ran out the door.

Tanya walked over to the window with Wako still in her arms. She arrived just in time to see the car speed off.

“I guess they don’t like kids,” Rita commented.

“Or something like that,” Tanya agreed. “I doubt we’ll see them again for the rest of the weekend.”

In another part of the city, Hard Drive stood in an old, dark room with only a single lamp as his source of light. He pondered over a schematic of the city as he hatched out his latest scheme.

“There,” he told himself as he jabbed a part of the map with his finger. “There’s the perfect spot.”

He smiled to himself. Once his plan was started, not even the Swat Kats would be able to stop him. This time he would not fail.

*************

Later that same day, Rita walked up the stairs of a very familiar building. She remembered the last time she had walked up these stairs. That was after Chance and Jake had dropped her off there and Tanya had raced out of the building in her grubbies before she could get to the door. On this day, Rita was heading up to finish up the meeting Tanya couldn’t even start.

Rita wore a skirt and carried a briefcase. She did feel a bit out of character, but it was either her or Tanya. And, after the last meeting, Tanya had promised her she was never going to another meeting again. So, Rita was now stuck with every single business meeting from here after.

She had made a big fuss over it, but deep down inside, she liked going to meetings. Living in that big house in the middle of nowhere made Rita feel cut off from the rest of the world. She loved being around others and meeting new kats. Definitely far more social than Tanya, who was content to stay in her big, empty house outside the city.

Rita received a lot of surprised faces as she stepped into the meeting. A large, serious and important looking kat stood in the corner and looked at her suspiciously. His presence made her feel uneasy. But, she tried to ignore him as she set her briefcase on the long table

“I am pleased to announce,” Rita began, “that I will be taking care of all Tanya’s meetings from now on.”

All the business kats looked relieved. But, the large kat in the corner looked surprised. He walked up to Rita.

“I was told Tanya would be here,” he said to her.

Rita looked up at the kat. He towered over her. He was even bigger than Chance, which to Rita was quite a feat.

“I’m sorry, but if you want to find Tanya, this would be the last place she’d be, Mr...”

“Commander,” corrected the kat. “Commander Feral.”

“Alright,” Rita said, paws on hips. “What did she possibly do to have the Enforcers after her?”

“No, Miss...”

“Rita, please.”

“No Rita,” the Commander informed her. “She is not in trouble. She seems to know everyone from my niece to the Swat Kats. I’ve heard about her from the Deputy Mayor and my informants at the salvage yard. Somehow she knows who I am. And, I wanted to meet this kat.”

“I’m sorry, Commander,” Rita said as she opened her briefcase,“but, I’m kind of busy right now.”

Suddenly, three black and white creatures popped out of the briefcase. One had brown pants, one had on a red cap and blue shirt and the third wore a pink skirt.

“Hi Rita!” Yakko, Wakko, and Dot sang together.

“Oh no!” Rita cried as she slapped her paw to her forehead.

“Oh yes!” the Warners said as they all gave Rita a big hug.

“Woo, look at these muscles,” Yakko said as he stood on the table and fingered the Commander’s arm. Even from the table, the tallest Warner could not even compare with Feral’s height. “The chicks must really dig you.”

“No way, Yakko,” Dot corrected. “He’s too grouchy looking. He’s going to have to lighten up before any girls goes out with him.”

While Yakko and Dot were insulting the Commander, Wakko was checking out the rest of the meeting participants. He spotted a folder by a particularly nervous looking kat. Wakko walked up to the folder as the kat backed away. He picked it up and looked through it. Not finding it very interesting, he popped it in his mouth and swallowed it. The kat fainted, who fell out of his char, who tripped Commander Feral, who had been chasing Yakko, who had his wallet.

By now, all three Warners were literally bouncing around the room in a hyper state. Rita felt the blood rush to her head as she saw the chaos unraveling before her.

“Everybody freeze!” she screamed with more power than she thought possible. There wasn’t a single soul in that room that dared move. Including the commander. “You!” she barked, pointing at Yakko. “Give back the wallet.”

Yakko reluctantly returned it.

“Alright you guys, out!”

The Warners looked at her oddly, but didn’t move.

“NOW!”

The three creatures were out the door before you could say, “Chopper backup.”

The second they were out of the door, the lights went out. Rita was about to go after the Warners when the lights flickered on again and an evil voice crackled over the speaker.

“Attention all inhabitants,” the voice said. “This is Hard Drive, and I’ve taken over every computer system in Megakat City, not to mention this building. All exits have been electrically sealed, so don’t bother trying to escape. Enjoy your stay.” Hard Drive laughed menacingly as he turned off the loud speaker.

Commander Feral turned to the other kats. “Where is the main computer room?”

“It’s the next floor up,” one kat offered.

Feral raced up the stairs to the next floor followed by Rita and some other kats brave enough to follow. The second the commander was up the stairs, he could see Hard Drive standing in the computer room through the open doorway.

“Stop right there, Hard Drive,” he ordered as he raced toward the villain.

Hard Drive turned to see his fast-coming aggressor.

“Not so fast, Commander,” he said as he hooked up to the mechanical door and slammed it in Feral’s face.

He laughed as he heard the commander collide with the door. Then he noticed for the first time three black creatures with white faces and red noses. They had been standing behind the door and were now in full view.

“Wow, neat trick,” Dot said. “Can you teach me to do that?”

“How’d you get in here?” Hard Drive demanded.

“In an airplane,” Yakko answered simply. “We’re staying with our aunt. She lives in a big house outside the city.”

“Yeah,” Wakko added. “She’s got tons of money.”

Hard Drive looked at the kids incredulously. They returned his look with big, cheesy smiles. Hard Drive couldn’t believe his luck. Now, after he was done blackmailing the city, he could ransom these kids, or whatever they were, to their very rich aunt. He scooped up the Warners and plopped them in a chair, tying them fast with rope. He was about to go back to his work when he took one more glance at the unusual creatures.

“What are you anyway?”

“Didn’t we already clear this up in the first scene?” Dot asked her brothers.

“I don’t know, sibs,” Yakko said in a serious voice. “But, I do know one thing.”

“What’s that, Yakko,” Wakko asked.

“We’ve just found our new special friend.”

The three grinned at the unsuspecting Hard Drive.

************

A number of Enforcer vehicles parked outside the building. Felina stepped out of one and looked the scene over. Three Enforcers were trying to pry open the front door, which refused to budge.

A red convertible pulled up behind her.

“Felina.”

Felina turned around to see Tanya walking towards her.

“What’s going on?”

“Hard Drive has taken over the building. Not to mention the city’s computer system. So far we have been unable to make contact with anyone inside.”

Tanya looked worriedly at the building. She didn’t know who Hard Drive was, but she did know that her best friend was in there along with the Warners. And, she hoped they were okay. She was so wrapped up in her worries she almost didn’t hear the Kat’s Eye News van pull up behind her.

***********

Chance and Jake were eating lunch and watching TV when all of a sudden Anne Gora’s face flashed on the screen.

“This is Anne Gora for Kat’s Eye News live down town where it appears Hard Drive has taken over the city’s computer systems and is holding the inhabitants of the building behind me hostage.

Both kats jumped from their seats.

“Looks like trouble, buddy,” Chance said.

“Yeah,” Jake agreed. “So, we better get down there, pronto.”

They raced off for the hanger.

**************

Back inside the building, Hard Drive had figured the battle was his. With the city’s systems at his control he could control everything from traffic lights to the water supply. He could just picture the mayor handing the city over to him. He would be king of Megakat City! All his subjects would bow before him and say...

“Hey, mister, what does this button do?”

Hard Drive spun around to see Yakko about to push a large, red button.

“No! Don’t push that!”

“Okay,” Yakko agreed. “How about this one?”

He pushed a different button, and Hard Drive received a shock from the computer he was linked to.

“Hey, that’s neat,” Yakko said. “Let’s try that again.”

He began pushing more buttons, shocking Hard Drive left and right.

“You little beast!” Hard Drive screamed at Yakko between shocks. “Get away from there!”

He picked up the oldest Warner and threw him back into the empty chair where he was supposed to be tied up. Hard Drive heard an unpleasant crunch. He looked over to find Wakko chowing down on the computer consol. But, before he could grab the hungry creature, he was stopped by Dot.

“Wow, look at that coat!” Dot exclaimed. “With all those flashy things around it, what a fashion statement. But, that mohawk is so yesterday. Let me wet it down, and I’ll do it like Tom Cruise.”

She pulled out a bucket of water from behind her back and advanced toward the electrified villain.

“No!” Hard Drive screamed in terror. “Don’t!”

***************

Chaos was spreading like the plague throughout the city. Everything that was run by a computer was going haywire. Then suddenly, everything went out. The majority of Megakat City was down.

****************

Hard Drive stood in a puddle of water, smoke floated up from his singed fur. His surge suit was blackened from the sudden shock of electricity meeting water. He teetered for a moment and then fell face first to the ground.

“Hey, mister,” Yakko said again. “NOW can I push the button?”

Hard Drive shook his head and forced himself to get up. He had now lost all his powers of anything. He knew it was only a matter of time before the Enforcers would get the doors open and arrest him. He looked around frantically for a plan. He saw the Warners standing with innocent faces and he smiled, remembering his second plot.

*****************

“Hey, Tanya, we’ve made contact with Hard Drive, and he wants to talk with you.”

Tanya looked over at Felina. She held out a communicator to Tanya as she walked up to her. Tanya pushed the talk button.
“Speak to me,” she said.

“I’ve got your niece and nephews here,” Hard Drive said. “If you ever want to see them alive again, I want five-no - fifteen million dollars here by noon or they’re history.”

“Let me talk to them,” Tanya said, unflustered by Hard Drive’s threat.

“Nothing doing,” his voice crackled over the mic. “You’re not getting anything until I get my mon–Hey! Let go of that! Give that back!”

“Helllo-o-o-o Tanya!” Yakko’s voice sounded through the speaker.

“Yakko, having fun?” Tanya asked.

“Oh yeah. This is great. We like him a lot.”

“Good, then I guess he can keep you guys.”

“What?” an outraged voice screamed in the background. “No! Anything but that!”

Then all was quiet. Seconds later, a singed kat in a charred surge coat ran screaming out the font door and right up to Felina.

“Arrest me! Chain me! Lock me up for life! Anything to get me away from those monsters!”

As he spoke, the three Warners bounced happily out of the building.

“Hey, where are you going?” Yakko called.

“Don’t leave us,” Wakko pleaded.

“We’re still got lost more fun things to do,” added Dot.

Hard Drive screamed. He snatched Felina’s hand cuffs, put them on himself and raced into the waiting Enforcer vehicle. He then slammed the door and cowered in the floor of the car.

The Warners stopped in bewilderment.

“Who are we going to play with now?” Dot asked her brothers.

Just then, Rita stormed out of the building. The Warners turned to look at her and smiled.

“Rita!” they cried with open arms.

“Oh no!” Rita said. “I’m through with you three for today.”

With that, she raced to her blue car and sped off down the street towards home. The Warners looked up at Tanya.

“Come on, kids. I think you’ve caused enough trouble for today. How about we go get ice cream?”

“Yeah!” the three agreed as they jumped into her car.

“Bye, Felina,” Tanya called over her shoulder. She got herself into the car, and they all drove off.

For the fourth time since the power failure, the doors of the building burst open and out stepped Commander Feral.

“Felina, did you capture Hard Drive?”

“Right here, Uncle.” Felina patted the hood of the car.

“What about those three creatures? Did you see them?”

“Tanya came and got them.”

“Tanya?” the commander cried. “You mean she was here?”

“Yup, you just missed her.”

Commander Feral cursed his bad timing. One day or another he’d catch up to that she kat. A black jet landed, interrupting his grumbling and two masked pilots got out.

“What’s happening?” asked T-Bone. “Where’s Hard Drive?”

“Well if it isn’t the ever so unpunctual Swat Kats,” Commander Feral mocked.

“What are you talking about?” Razor asked.

“Sorry, Swat Kats,” Felina said. “But, we’ve already captured Hard Drive.”

Felina pointed to the car, and T-Bone and Razor looked inside with surprise.

“Next time, just stay at home and save yourselves the trouble,” said Commander Feral.

The Swat Kats didn’t answer. They just went back to their jet in silence and flew off into the sky and out of sight.
